Full-stack developer for a small, AI-forward Toronto team building the web apps and serverless AWS services behind our platform. React and TypeScript on the front-end, Node.js and Lambda on the back-end — lean toward either, grow into both. Hybrid, three days a week near Yonge & Eglinton.

About Openscreen

Openscreen brings digital engagement to the real world at the Point of Interaction. As enterprises digitally transform, systems and content often remain inaccessible where and when people need them most. Our patent-pending platform, serialized QR codes, and our flagship products, Openscreen Engage and Openscreen Track, power nearly a million digital Points of Interaction across 20+ countries for global brands in telecom, retail, and healthcare.

About the Role

We’re looking for a skilled and ambitious full-stack developer who is comfortable across the front-end and back-end of our platform. You may lean toward one or the other and that’s fine. But you can find your way around the code, tooling, and technologies of either. You’re eager to grow into the parts you know less well. You’ll help build the web apps, portals, and sites that are the face of our platform, as well as the cloud services behind them, with the utmost quality and polish.

Because we’re a small team, your work goes live fast and your decisions matter. You’ll collaborate directly with our designer, product team, and senior developers (including our CTO), get broad ownership early, and have real influence over the technologies and patterns we adopt. Above all, we hire for fit and aptitude rather than specific experience or seniority, so we welcome standout candidates at any stage in their career.

We’re an AI-forward shop. We use AI tools across our development workflow. Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools like Claude, Cursor, or Copilot is an asset.

What You Bring

We expect real depth in one of these areas and working familiarity with (or genuine eagerness to develop) the other.

Front-end

  • Strong React and TypeScript; fluent with component design, hooks, context, state management, and the React lifecycle.
  • Solid HTML and CSS/Sass fundamentals and an eye for design: responsive, mobile-first interfaces, built with care.
  • Experience with the Next.js and Vercel ecosystem, and integrating REST APIs and SDKs.
  • The ability to interpret designs and make front-end decisions alongside the front-end lead, designer, and product team.

Back-end

  • Server-side JavaScript or TypeScript on Node.js or AWS Lambda, and NoSQL data modelling (e.g. DynamoDB).
  • Building solutions on AWS, real-time communication over WebSockets, and infrastructure as code (AWS CDK, CloudFormation, or Serverless).

Responsibilities

  • Build screens and components in React and TypeScript from the wireframes, designs, and style guides we provide, with the quality and polish our brand demands.
  • Translate designs into reusable, accessible components in our shared UI kit and component library.
  • Manage server state with React Query and client state with Zustand, and integrate our internal SDK, REST APIs, and real-time WebSocket features.
  • Build and operate REST API and WebSocket services on AWS Lambda, and model and query data in DynamoDB to power the interfaces your front-end consumes.
  • Define and deploy cloud infrastructure as code with AWS CDK, and help operate our serverless services in production.
  • Collaborate with design, product, and development; recommend technologies and approaches; and document your designs and decisions.

Tools and Technologies

  • Front-end: TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, and Sass; React, Next.js (Pages Router), React Query, Zustand, React Hook Form, and TanStack Table.
  • Styling & tooling: SCSS Modules, a shared UI kit and Storybook, Turborepo, pnpm, ESLint, Prettier, and Jest with React Testing Library.
  • Back-end: Node.js and serverless AWS; Lambda, API Gateway (REST & WebSockets), DynamoDB, Kinesis, S3, SES, KMS, and Secrets Manager, with AWS CDK for infrastructure as code.
  • Other: Figma, JIRA, and Confluence; git and GitHub; Vercel.

Communication and Presentation Skills

Emphasis is placed on excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to present design and technical information effectively to peers and management.

Compensation

We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, including the unique opportunity to receive employee equity incentives. Salary will be based on experience and qualifications.
