About The Role

The Staff+ Software Engineer in the Identity & Access Controls team at Anthropic plays a crucial role in ensuring that the company's advanced AI capabilities are accessible only to authorized individuals and organizations. As part of this team, you will develop and maintain the infrastructure that verifies identities, manages access permissions, and monitors for misuse or abuse of access privileges. Your work will support the responsible deployment of frontier AI models by building systems that establish trust and safeguard against unauthorized or malicious activities. This position requires a remote-friendly approach with travel as needed and offers the opportunity to work on high-impact projects that directly influence the safety and societal implications of AI technology.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
• Proven experience in building and operating backend systems in production environments
• Proficiency in Python and SQL programming languages
• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
• Genuine interest in societal impacts of AI and a desire to contribute to safer AI systems
• Minimum of 8+ years of industry software engineering experience (excluding internships and co-ops)
• Experience with identity, authentication, or authorization systems at scale
• Experience with KYC/KYB workflows or identity verification vendors
• Experience in trust and safety, fraud detection, or abuse prevention
• Experience detecting and responding to account takeover or credential compromise incidents
• Ability to collaborate effectively with operational teams to develop internal tooling
  
  

Responsibilities

• Design and develop identity verification and vetting systems (KYC/KYB) to establish customer identities
• Implement access control systems to grant, scope, and revoke access to advanced AI capabilities based on approved use cases
• Create infrastructure to configure safety systems and detection thresholds tailored to trusted access programs
• Develop monitoring tools to detect misuse of access and enable enforcement teams to respond swiftly
• Implement solutions to detect and remediate account takeovers and credential compromises
• Integrate with third-party identity verification and data enrichment vendors to enhance verification processes
• Build monitoring dashboards, alerts, and internal administrative tooling for effective oversight
• Collaborate closely with policy, enforcement, threat intelligence, and go-to-market teams to ensure access decisions are well-informed and consistently applied
