About The Role
Waymo is seeking a highly experienced Staff Software
Engineer to join the DevAI team, reporting to the Director of
Engineering. This role is pivotal in revolutionizing the development and deployment of AI-powered tools and agentic systems that accelerate the development cycle of the Waymo Driver. The ideal candidate will spearhead the design and
implementation of multi-agent frameworks, develop sophisticated agentic workflows, and enhance debugging and deployment processes for autonomous driving systems. This position offers a hybrid work schedule, fostering collaboration across
engineering teams to embed cutting-edge Generative AI and multi-agent frameworks into Waymo’s core development processes. The role demands a strategic thinker with deep expertise in AI/ML,
software development, and system
architecture, committed to pushing the boundaries of autonomous vehicle technology through innovative AI solutions.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of software development experience, with a proven track record in complex system architecture
- Hands-on experience building and deploying multi-agent frameworks and agentic AI systems
- Deep understanding of modern software development lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies
- Proficiency in spec-driven development practices to ensure robust software outputs
- Strong expertise in Large Language Models (LLMs), including prompt engineering and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)
- Exceptional coding skills, capable of architecting large-scale, scalable software solutions
- Experience leading cross-functional technical teams and projects
- Advanced knowledge of AI/ML techniques and architectures
- Preferred: Master’s or PhD in Computer Science or related field, with specialization in AI/ML
- Experience in developing AI-powered tools for software engineering is a plus
Responsibilities
- Develop and optimize multi-agent frameworks and tools to enhance engineering efficiency and productivity
- Design and deploy agentic workflows to automate complex engineering tasks such as root cause analysis and automated triage
- Create specialized perception debugging agents to accelerate troubleshooting of real-world and simulated driving behaviors
- Build data pipelines and evaluation strategies to productionize state-of-the-art LLMs and agentic AI solutions within Waymo’s environment
- Collaborate closely with engineering teams to understand their workflows and drive adoption of innovative DevAI tools
- Implement best practices for AI model deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement
- Lead technical initiatives across multiple teams, ensuring alignment with company goals and standards
