About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Software Engineer to join our dynamic technology team in Toronto, Ontario. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and implementing scalable, fault-tolerant software solutions that support our innovative banking products and services. You will act as a technical leader, guiding cross-functional teams through the entire software development lifecycle, from conception to deployment. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge
cloud-based architectures,
microservices, and open-source technologies, contributing to our mission of enhancing customer experience and operational efficiency. The role does not involve direct reports but requires advanced hands-on development, architectural expertise, and a passion for mentoring junior team members.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of six years of hands-on software development experience, preferably utilizing languages such as
Java,
Python, or
Go. A strong background in application and
data architecture, combined with experience in
cloud environments—particularly AWS—is essential. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in technical design, architecture, and leading complex projects. A bachelor’s, master’s, or diploma in
Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field is required. Additionally, experience mentoring junior associates and guiding technical stakeholders is highly valued. Familiarity with
agile methodologies and a proactive approach to continuous learning will be advantageous.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate within a dynamic team throughout all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle, ensuring timely and quality delivery of software solutions.
- Take ownership of technical design and development as a tech lead, developing cross-platform, fault-tolerant applications that meet business needs.
- Identify and implement improvements to software engineering practices, frameworks, and tools to enhance developer experience and productivity.
- Establish and enforce engineering best practices, including code review standards, documentation, and testing protocols.
- Provide technical expertise and problem-solving support, defining standards and ensuring adherence to best practices across projects.
- Lead architecture discussions, applying a comprehensive understanding of technology impacts on business domains, and contribute to high-level design documentation.
- Mentor junior and intermediate developers, fostering their growth through knowledge sharing, code reviews, and guidance on engineering standards.
