About the Role

We're looking for a talented software engineer to join our team and help design, build, and maintain the software systems that power our products. You'll work across the full development lifecycle, from planning and architecture through to deployment and maintenance, collaborating closely with product managers, designers, and fellow engineers to turn business requirements into reliable, scalable software.

This role suits someone who enjoys solving real problems with code, is comfortable working in a hybrid or remote-first team, and wants to keep growing technically in a fast-moving environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Write clean, efficient, and reusable code in programming languages such as Java, Python, C++, or .NET.
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain software applications and systems that meet user and business needs
  • Write clean, efficient, well-documented code in languages such as Python, Java, C#, or JavaScript
  • Contribute across the full software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering and system design through to deployment and ongoing maintenance
  • Build and consume RESTful APIs, and work with relational and/or NoSQL databases
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineers to translate requirements into technical specifications
  • Participate in code reviews, pair programming, and knowledge-sharing to maintain high engineering standards
  • Identify, debug, and resolve software defects and performance issues
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices to support reliable, frequent releases
  • Stay current with emerging tools, frameworks, and best practices, and help evaluate new technologies where relevant
  • Ensure software meets relevant security, compliance, and data-protection standards

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in software development, either commercially or through substantial personal/open-source projects
  • Strong proficiency in at least one major programming language (Python, Java, C#, JavaScript/TypeScript, or similar)
  • Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software design principles
  • Experience building and integrating with RESTful APIs
  • Familiarity with relational database design (SQL); NoSQL experience a plus
  • Working knowledge of version control (Git) and collaborative development workflows
  • Understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently on ambiguous problems

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Exposure to containerisation and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tooling and DevOps practices
  • Front-end framework experience (React, Vue, or Angular) for full-stack roles
  • Relevant cloud certifications (e.g. AWS Certified Developer, Azure Fundamentals)
  • Experience working in regulated industries (fintech, healthtech) where compliance and security are critical

Qualifications

  • A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field is preferred but not required, many UK employers now prioritise demonstrable skills, GitHub portfolios, and practical experience over formal qualifications
  • Bootcamp graduates and self-taught engineers with a strong portfolio are encouraged to apply

Soft Skills

  • Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of programming languages such as Java, Python, C++, Ruby on Rails, or .NET.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to analyze technical issues and develop effective solutions.
  • Attention to Detail: Ensure accuracy and precision in coding and debugging.
  • Team Collaboration: Excellent communication and teamwork skills to work effectively in a collaborative environment.
  • Agile Development: Experience working in agile development environments and familiarity with test-driven development.
  • Database Management: Proficiency in designing and managing databases.
  • Cloud Technologies: Familiarity with cloud platforms and DevOps practices is a plus.

How to Apply

  • Please submit your CV along with a link to your GitHub, portfolio, or relevant project work. We review candidates on demonstrated ability and problem-solving, not just credentials.
