Our client is a seed-stage enterprise software company developing an AI-native ERP platform for defense manufacturing. Founded in 2025, the company has raised $12 million and grown to a 15-person team. Its platform supports the operational and financial systems behind mission-critical hardware production, with a focus on expanding its capabilities into finance and accounting.

About the Role

The company is looking for a backend-focused Full-Stack Engineer to build the data models, APIs, and services behind its finance and accounting modules. This role is suited to an engineer with experience in ERP, fintech, or accounting software who understands financial data and can translate business requirements into reliable software.

You'll own greenfield development from technical design and database schema decisions through deployment and iteration. The work will involve extending the existing platform beyond inventory and supply-chain management to support invoicing, payments, financial reporting, and integrations with external business systems. While the primary focus is backend engineering, you'll also contribute to the React frontend when needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Design data models for invoicing, payments, profit and loss (P&L) reporting, and other complex financial workflows.
• Build client-facing APIs that connect the platform with HR, payroll, accounting, and other external systems.
• Develop backend services using Python, FastAPI, and PostgreSQL, making informed decisions about OLAP and OLTP approaches.
• Combine operational data with labor, subscription, and financial inputs to produce reliable reporting.
• Take ownership of substantial features from technical design and database schema decisions through deployment and ongoing iteration.
• Contribute to the React frontend as needed while maintaining primary ownership of backend systems.

Required Qualifications

• 3–7 years of backend or full-stack engineering experience building production systems, with 5+ years preferred.
• Strong proficiency in Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, and GraphQL.
• Experience working at an ERP, fintech, or accounting software company, including data modeling for invoicing, payments, or financial reporting.
• Strong database schema design skills and a practical understanding of OLAP versus OLTP trade-offs.
• A track record of taking greenfield features from initial design through deployment, rather than focusing solely on maintaining existing systems.
• Working knowledge of accounting and finance concepts, with the ability to collaborate directly with domain stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications / Requirements

• Experience designing clean, client-facing APIs for integrations with HR, payroll, or accounting tools.
• Familiarity with Docker, CI/CD, React, or WebSockets.
• Experience in defense technology or manufacturing software.

Salary & Benefits

The base salary range is $170,000–$230,000, with potential flexibility for exceptional candidates. Competitive equity is available for early employees.

This is a full-time position open to candidates based in the United States, with a preference for those on the West Coast. Remote employees are expected to attend quarterly team on-sites in San Diego. Candidates based in San Diego will work from the office three days per week.
