About the Role

Are you a developer who enjoys solving problems, building practical solutions, and taking projects from start to finish?

Do you like understanding how systems work, figuring out why things break, and finding better ways to make applications work together?

Bongarde Media is looking for a Full Stack Developer to join our Product Development team.

We're looking for a versatile, hands-on developer who is comfortable working across the technology stack — from WordPress and front-end development to back-end applications, databases, APIs, and third-party integrations.

This role involves more than writing code. You'll help maintain and improve existing applications, troubleshoot technical challenges, manage integrations between platforms, and develop new functionality.

Our ideal candidate is curious, resourceful, and takes ownership of their work. You don't need to know every technology we use, but you should enjoy learning new systems and solving unfamiliar problems.

About Bongarde Media

Bongarde Media is a web-centered information and training company focused on the compliance and education needs of safety, environmental, and human resource professionals across the United States and Canada.

Since 1929, Bongarde has provided companies, industry associations, and government organizations with practical compliance and training solutions to help keep workers safe and occupational health and safety programs up to date.

Our team is focused on making it easier for our customers to do their jobs safely and effectively through innovative digital products, streamlined processes, and accessible information.

What You'll Do

As a Full Stack Developer, you'll work on a variety of development, maintenance, integration, and troubleshooting projects across our digital products and internal systems.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Develop, maintain, and improve web applications and WordPress-based platforms.
  • Build and enhance front-end and back-end functionality using PHP, JavaScript, MySQL, and other technologies.
  • Work with content management systems (CMS), learning management systems (LMS), administrative portals, and third-party SaaS applications.
  • Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot API integrations that connect different applications and services.
  • Support user management, account provisioning, authentication, single sign-on (SSO), and permission configurations across integrated systems.
  • Investigate and resolve issues involving user accounts, data synchronization, access permissions, and application integrations.
  • Develop responsive, user-friendly interfaces that work across desktop and mobile devices.
  • Support and troubleshoot cloud-hosted applications and environments, including AWS and WP Engine.
  • Diagnose technical problems, identify root causes, and implement reliable, long-term solutions.
  • Take ownership of projects from initial requirements through development, testing, deployment, and ongoing support.
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual processes and improve system reliability, performance, and usability.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to understand business requirements and translate them into practical technical solutions.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and well-documented code.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for a well-rounded developer with strong fundamentals, practical problem-solving skills, and the ability to adapt to different technologies and systems.

Core Technical Skills

  • WordPress & PHP: Experience developing, maintaining, customizing, and troubleshooting WordPress applications.
  • MySQL: Experience working with relational databases, queries, and application data.
  • JavaScript, HTML & CSS: Strong understanding of front-end development and responsive design.
  • Python: Experience with scripting, automation, or back-end development.
  • API Integrations: Familiarity with REST APIs, JSON, and communication between applications.
  • Application Administration: Experience working with CMS platforms, LMS platforms, SaaS applications, or administrative portals involving users, permissions, content, and configuration.
  • Authentication & User Management: Understanding of account provisioning, user roles, permissions, and authentication concepts.
  • Cloud & Hosting: Familiarity with AWS, WP Engine, or similar hosting and cloud environments.
  • Troubleshooting: Strong debugging skills and the ability to investigate technical problems across multiple systems.

Professional Skills

  • Problem-Solving: You enjoy investigating challenges, understanding root causes, and finding effective solutions.
  • Ownership & Accountability: You take responsibility for your projects and follow through from start to finish.
  • Project Management: You can manage multiple priorities, organize your work, and deliver projects within agreed-upon timelines.
  • Initiative: You proactively identify problems and opportunities for improvement.
  • Adaptability: You're comfortable learning unfamiliar technologies, platforms, and systems.
  • Communication: You can explain technical problems and solutions clearly to technical and non-technical team members.
  • Collaboration: You work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Availability: You're available during regular business operating hours.
  • English Proficiency: Strong written and verbal English communication skills.

Nice to Have

Experience with any of the following would be an asset:

  • Learning management systems (LMS), including Instructure Bridge or similar platforms
  • Single sign-on (SSO) and authentication protocols such as SAML, OAuth 2.0, or OpenID Connect
  • User provisioning, identity mapping, and role-based access control
  • Integrations involving multiple applications, user databases, or external services
  • Developing or maintaining custom WordPress plugins
  • Zapier: Experience building, maintaining, and troubleshooting automated workflows and integrations between applications
  • Mobile application development
  • Workflow automation and process improvement
  • Email systems, email delivery, and server configuration
  • Approximately 2+ years of professional development experience
  • A degree or diploma in computer science, software engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

You don't need to check every box. We value practical experience, resourcefulness, and the ability to learn just as much as formal qualifications.
