About The Role
We are currently seeking a highly skilled Software
Engineer specializing in Autonomy & Simulation to join Owen Daniels. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of autonomous marine vessels by designing and implementing high-performance software systems. The successful candidate will be instrumental in creating robust autonomy modules, communication systems, and simulation environments that enable
testing and validation of autonomous behaviors in challenging environments. This position is ideal for individuals passionate about solving complex
engineering problems, building intelligent systems, and working on projects that have a tangible impact on the future of maritime technology. The role is permanent, offering a competitive salary in the range of £50,000 to £60,000 depending on experience, along with a comprehensive benefits package.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a degree in
Computer Science, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a related field, or have equivalent industry experience. Proven experience in
software development using modern
C++ (version 14 or newer) is essential. A strong understanding of object-oriented
programming principles and software architecture is required to ensure the development of reliable, modular, and maintainable code. Candidates should demonstrate a proactive approach to problem-solving, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team. Additional desirable qualifications include experience with ROS or ROS2, simulation tools such as Gazebo, Unity, or Webots, and familiarity with autonomous systems and robotics software stacks.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop software aligned with system requirements, focusing on autonomy, simulation, and communication modules.
- Create and maintain simulation environments to test autonomous behaviors and facilitate system integration.
- Implement scalable and robust autonomy features, including mission planning, perception integration, and decision-making algorithms.
- Conduct comprehensive testing and validation of software through unit tests, simulation-based testing, bench testing, and sea trials.
- Produce detailed documentation to support software development, deployment, and maintenance processes.
- Participate in peer reviews to ensure high-quality, reliable, and maintainable codebases.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure timely delivery of software solutions and documentation.
