About the Role

We're looking for a full stack developer with 2-3 years of experience to help build and maintain the APIs and user-facing features of Sahara Mind's mental health platform. You'll work across both backend services and React components, focusing on writing clean, reliable code that scales.

This is a hands-on role—you'll spend most of your time writing code (backend-focused, with frontend contributions), but you'll also contribute to technical decisions and collaborate with the broader engineering team.

What You'll Do

Backend Development

• Develop and maintain Nest.js services and APIs for our web and mobile apps
• Write clean, testable REST APIs with proper error handling and validation
• Build reusable server-side modules and services
• Review code and provide thoughtful feedback to teammates

Frontend Development

• Build React components for our web application
• Integrate frontend code with backend APIs
• Handle state management and data fetching patterns
• Contribute to UI improvements and feature development

Database & Caching

• Work with PostgreSQL: design schemas, write efficient queries, optimize performance
• Implement caching strategies using Redis
• Understand and follow data modeling best practices
• Help troubleshoot database-related issues in production

Testing & Quality

• Write unit and integration tests for the code you ship
• Debug production issues and trace root causes
• Help improve application stability through monitoring and logging
• Follow testing best practices as part of your workflow

Integration & DevOps

• Integrate third-party services (authentication, payments, email/SMS, notifications)
• Build and deploy Docker containers for our backend services
• Deploy and manage applications on AWS (EC2, S3, RDS, etc.)
• Understand CI/CD pipelines and help troubleshoot deployment issues
• Monitor application health and logs; alert the team to problems

Collaboration

• Work directly with frontend developers, QA, and product to understand requirements
• Document APIs and technical decisions clearly
• Contribute to team knowledge through code reviews and discussions

What We're Looking For

Required

• 2-3 years of professional development experience (backend-focused or full stack)
• Strong hands-on experience with Nest.js and TypeScript
• Experience with React or similar frontend frameworks
• Solid understanding of REST API design and HTTP
• Experience with PostgreSQL or similar relational databases
• Proficiency with Docker and containerization
• Experience with Redis or caching technologies
• Basic understanding of AWS (EC2, S3, RDS, or similar services)
• Comfortable with asynchronous programming patterns
• Familiarity with Git and collaborative workflows
• Knowledge of authentication (JWT, OAuth)
• Problem-solving skills and ability to debug issues independently

Nice to Have

• Experience with Microservices architecture
• Tailwind CSS or other modern CSS frameworks
• State management libraries (Redux, Zustand, etc.)
• Testing libraries (Jest, React Testing Library)
• Message queues (RabbitMQ, Kafka)
• CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI)
• Monitoring tools (Grafana, Prometheus, CloudWatch)
• GraphQL experience
• Understanding of security best practices for backend systems

A degree in Computer Science or related field is a plus, but strong experience can substitute.
