About The Role

As a Web Applications Developer at Daniel Defense LLC, you will serve as the primary technical authority for our ecommerce platform. Reporting directly to the Director of Digital Commerce, you will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and optimizing our Magento Open Source storefront. This hands-on role combines front-end and back-end development, platform administration, and technical leadership of external development partners. Your expertise will ensure that our ecommerce site remains performant, secure, and aligned with business objectives. You will own platform development, infrastructure health, integrations, and site performance, playing a critical role in delivering a seamless online shopping experience for our customers.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have at least 2+ years of experience building and operating ecommerce websites, with significant hands-on experience on a mature commerce platform, preferably Magento Open Source. A strong foundation in JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3/SCSS is essential, along with experience writing and deploying production front-end code in both legacy and modern frameworks. Candidates should possess experience in ecommerce platform administration, including managing promotions, user permissions, and checkout configurations. Proficiency working in Linux-based cloud environments, particularly AWS, is required. Familiarity with integrating SaaS platforms via REST APIs, GraphQL, and webhooks is also necessary. Knowledge of CDN and edge platform management, such as Cloudflare or CloudFront, and experience implementing analytics and tag management are highly valued. A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience, is required. Strong problem-solving skills, the ability to investigate production issues, and experience with server-side development (preferably PHP) are also important. The candidate should demonstrate a self-directed working style, prioritize effectively, and be comfortable navigating the technical and regulatory complexities associated with firearms ecommerce.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain the customer-facing Magento Open Source storefront, including theme and template development, layout XML, RequireJS, Knockout.js, and React front-end components.
• Enhance the 3D product experience using Three.js while ensuring optimal performance in a production environment.
• Administer the Magento platform by configuring promotions, user roles, permissions, stores, websites, and core settings.
• Manage API integrations, credentials, and access for connected systems such as email, customer support, ERP, shipping, and tax platforms.
• Oversee platform infrastructure, including deployments, cache and index management, security patching, and staging environments, ensuring high availability and reliability.
• Maintain and improve site performance by managing Core Web Vitals, caching strategies, CDN configurations, and asset optimization.
• Build and troubleshoot integrations between Magento and external platforms supporting various business functions using REST APIs, GraphQL, and webhooks.
• Lead the technical work of external Magento development agencies, including project scoping, code review, quality assurance, and deployment approvals.
• Implement and maintain analytics tracking, including Google Tag Manager, GA4 ecommerce events, and server-side tagging, to support data-driven decisions.
• Develop and execute A/B tests and personalization campaigns through Optimizely, ensuring accurate data collection and analysis.
• Ensure compliance with firearms commerce regulations by maintaining age-verification, FFL routing, and state-specific shipping restrictions within the checkout process.
• Implement PCI DSS-aware payment processing solutions, maintain privacy and consent protocols via OneTrust, and retire technical debt with proper documentation.
• Participate in safety, quality, and operational improvements, demonstrating leadership in environmental health and safety principles.
