Haltivision is a software company, first and foremost - we just happen to run on edge devices out in the real world. We build AI-powered roadside technology that makes roads safer: real cameras, at real intersections, catching the dangerous driving that puts people at risk. Events are captured at the edge and enriched in the cloud, turning raw roadside data into trustworthy, evidence-grade outcomes. Our software doesn't sit in a dashboard waiting to be looked at — it runs in the field, makes decisions on the ground, and produces evidence that has to stand up to real scrutiny.

We're early, we're technical to the core, and we're looking for a Senior Software Engineer who wants their code to actually matter.

We have a PhD-level Senior Technical Architect doing the hard algorithmic science. We're looking for the senior engineer who turns that science into software that survives the real world.

Your work runs on IoT edge devices out in the physical world — taking the architect's algorithms and models and making them run reliably and fast on constrained hardware, sometimes offline, always to a standard that holds up. From there you'll move into the cloud pipeline that enriches those events into trustworthy, evidence-grade outcomes. Edge is where you'll start; the cloud enrichment pipeline is just as much yours.

This is hard engineering with real stakes - and a genuine partnership where the science and the software meet. If "it works on my machine" has never been good enough for you, you'll feel at home.

• Make the science real. Partner with our Senior Technical Architect to turn advanced algorithms and models into production-grade software on our camera and IoT edge devices.
• Own the edge. Build the on-device software that captures, processes and packages events — primarily Python, in containerised components on AWS IoT & Greengrass - built to run on constrained, sometimes-disconnected hardware.
• Enrich in the cloud. Build the pipeline that turns raw edge events into enriched, evidence-grade outcomes - primarily Node / TypeScript on AWS, with Python and Java where they fit.
• Use the right tool for the job. We don't force a single stack - we pick what suits the problem, and we'll expect you to have a view.
• Set the bar. Standards, code review, mentoring and architecture the team can build on.

• Deep, hands-on software engineering experience (5+ years) and the instincts of a genuine senior.
• Strong Python - it's core to what we do - and Node / TypeScript for the cloud side, with the confidence to pick up whatever a problem demands.
• Solid object-oriented fundamentals, clean code, automated testing, CI/CD and secure-by-design hygiene.
• Practical command of Git & GitHub, GitHub Actions, AWS and Docker.
• A real feel for performance - profiling and optimising software to run fast and lean on constrained hardware.
• The ability to work shoulder-to-shoulder with a research / algorithm specialist and turn their work into robust, shippable software.
• A bias for shipping, and a high bar for the things that matter.

• IoT / edge development (AWS IoT, Greengrass).
• Productionising AI / ML models or algorithms from a researcher's designs - you don't need to build the models, just make them fly.
• Applied cryptography and secure data handling.
• Computer vision or video / image processing.
• Java for cloud-side services.
• A bit of ReactJS / CSS for when the web app needs a hand.

• Real-world impact. Safer roads - not vanity metrics on a screen.
• Science meets software. Work alongside a PhD architect and make deep research real.
• Genuinely hard problems at the edge of edge computing, with no legacy to wade through.
• Early-stage influence. Help shape the architecture, the stack and the team from the ground up.
