AI Product Nerd InternAI-Native Product Engineering
Company: NerdPine
Location: India — Remote/Hybrid
Eligibility: B.E./B.Tech final-year students only
Internship Duration: 3–6 months
Stipend: ₹15,000 per month
Opportunity: Potential full-time conversion based on performance and business requirements
About the Role
NerdPine is looking for entrepreneurial and highly motivated B.E./B.Tech final-year students who enjoy turning ideas into working software products.
This is not a traditional internship where you wait for detailed coding instructions. You will work with our product and engineering teams to understand business problems, build real product features, test your work and improve it based on feedback.
You will use ChatGPT, Codex, Claude Code, Cursor, or similar platforms to accelerate delivery, while remaining responsible for architecture, code quality, security, testing and production reliability.
AI can help you move faster, but you must be able to understand, explain, verify, debug and improve everything you build.
What You Will Do
- Convert product requirements and business ideas into working application features.
- Build frontend, backend, database and API integrations.
- Develop AI-assisted workflows and structured AI outputs.
- Use AI coding platforms responsibly without blindly accepting generated code.
- Understand an existing codebase before making changes.
- Write clean, reusable and maintainable code.
- Design appropriate data models and API contracts.
- Implement authentication, authorization, validation and error handling.
- Test expected, unexpected and failure scenarios.
- Identify security, privacy, performance and reliability risks.
- Deploy and demonstrate features in development or staging environments.
- Document technical decisions, assumptions, limitations and known risks.
- Communicate progress, blockers and implementation decisions clearly.
- Take ownership of an assigned product module under team guidance.
Who Can Apply
You must be:
- A final-year B.E./B.Tech student studying in India.
- Pursuing Computer Science, Information Technology, AI/ML, Data Science, Software Engineering, ECE or a related discipline.
- Comfortable with at least one modern programming language.
- Familiar with basic web or application development.
- Actively using ChatGPT, Codex, Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot or similar tools.
- Able to explain the code and architecture of the projects you have built.
- Interested in AI, startups, product development and entrepreneurship.
- Comfortable learning independently and receiving technical feedback.
- Willing to work with changing or initially unclear requirements.
Academic scores are not our primary selection criterion. We care more about curiosity, technical fundamentals, ownership, learning speed and evidence that you enjoy building.
Helpful Technical Experience
Experience in some of the following areas is helpful, but you are not expected to know everything:
- JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Java or a similar language
- React, Next.js or another frontend framework
- FastAPI, Node.js or another backend framework
- PostgreSQL, MySQL, Supabase or Firebase
- REST APIs and third-party integrations
- Git and GitHub
- Authentication and role-based access
- Cloud deployment
- Prompt engineering and structured AI responses
- Testing, debugging, logging and error handling
What You Must Submit
Please provide:
- Your résumé.
- Your GitHub profile or a project repository.
- A working application link or short product demonstration.
- A brief explanation of what you personally built.
- An explanation of how you used AI tools in the project.
- One example where AI generated an incorrect solution or code and how you identified and fixed it.
- A short response to:
“How would you verify that AI-generated code is safe, reliable and ready for users?”
Projects, experiments and hackathon work are welcome. Certificates without demonstrable project work will carry limited weight.
Selection Process
The selection process may include:
- Application and project review
- Product-thinking conversation
- Technical discussion
- Code explanation and debugging exercise
- Short AI-assisted development challenge
- Paid practical trial for shortlisted candidates
Candidates will be evaluated on:
- Curiosity and learning speed
- Programming fundamentals
- Responsible use of AI tools
- Product and user thinking
- Debugging and verification ability
- Ownership and initiative
- Communication and teamwork
- Coachability and response to feedback
What Success Looks Like
We are not looking for someone who says:
“AI generated the code, and it appears to work.”
We are looking for someone who can say:
“I understand the solution, tested the important scenarios, identified the risks and corrected the failures.”What NerdPine Offers
- A fixed monthly stipend of ₹15,000.
- Experience working on real AI-era software products.
- Exposure to startup product strategy and execution.
- Practical experience beyond classroom assignments.
- Mentorship in AI-assisted product engineering.
- Ownership of meaningful product features.
