Senior Full-Stack Engineer — Ruby on Rails + React/TypeScript
Remote — Latin America
We’re looking for a Senior Full-Stack Engineer to help build and evolve Perchwell’s real estate data and workflow platform.
This is a hands-on product engineering role for someone who can own features across the entire stack—from understanding the business problem and designing the solution to implementation, testing, release, observability, and post-launch iteration.
You’ll work in an established Ruby on Rails and React/TypeScript environment with complex relational data, search functionality, integrations, and data pipelines supporting customer-facing real estate workflows.
What You’ll Do
- Own the end-to-end delivery of key product features, from discovery and technical design through implementation, testing, launch, monitoring, and iteration
- Build and maintain backend services, business logic, APIs, and data models using Ruby on Rails
- Develop responsive, maintainable customer-facing experiences using React and TypeScript
- Learn existing platform workflows and evolve the architecture without disrupting services that customers rely on
- Design and optimize relational data models, queries, indexes, and migrations in PostgreSQL
- Contribute to search, filtering, reporting, and data-intensive workflows
- Work with data pipelines and external data sources that feed core platform data stores
- Write and maintain backend, frontend, integration, and end-to-end tests
- Participate actively in technical discussions, architecture decisions, code reviews, incident resolution, and controlled releases
- Collaborate closely with Product, Design, Customer Success, and Engineering to clarify requirements, identify constraints, and define realistic delivery plans
- Balance roadmap initiatives with production issues and reactive customer needs while communicating priorities and tradeoffs clearly
- Use AI-assisted development tools responsibly to improve delivery speed while maintaining strong review, testing, and security standards
Required Qualifications
- At least 4 years of recent professional experience working hands-on with both Ruby on Rails and React/TypeScript
- Strong full-stack experience building and operating production web applications
- Solid knowledge of Ruby, Rails, ActiveRecord, REST APIs, and object-oriented design
- Strong experience with React, TypeScript, modern component patterns, and API-driven interfaces
- Strong understanding of relational data modeling, PostgreSQL, SQL queries, indexing, transactions, and database migrations
- Experience owning customer-facing features from initial requirements through production release
- Experience writing automated backend and frontend tests
- Familiarity with continuous integration, pull-request workflows, code reviews, and controlled production releases
- Ability to diagnose issues across application code, APIs, databases, background jobs, and frontend behavior
- Experience collaborating directly with Product and Design around business requirements, technical constraints, scope, and sequencing
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills
- Experience working effectively in distributed or remote engineering teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Elasticsearch or OpenSearch, including indexing, filtering, aggregations, or relevance tuning
- Experience with AWS services and cloud-hosted production applications
- Experience building or maintaining data ingestion, synchronization, ETL, or data pipeline workflows
- Experience with Sidekiq, Redis, asynchronous processing, and background jobs
- Experience integrating third-party APIs and external data feeds with validation, retries, error handling, and monitoring
- Experience with RSpec, Jest, React Testing Library, Cypress, or Playwright
- Experience with observability tools such as Datadog, Sentry, New Relic, or CloudWatch
- Experience with multi-tenant SaaS platforms, role-based access, permissions, auditability, or data privacy
- Experience in PropTech, real estate marketplaces, listing platforms, search-heavy products, or other data-intensive SaaS environments
- Experience using tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot as part of a disciplined engineering workflow
- Previous experience mentoring engineers or providing technical guidance through reviews and pairing
What Makes Someone Successful in This Role
- You are equally comfortable working in Rails and React/TypeScript
- You think beyond individual tickets and take responsibility for the complete product outcome
- You can understand an existing codebase before proposing architectural changes
- You communicate tradeoffs early and clearly
- You consider data integrity, permissions, performance, failure cases, testing, and observability part of feature development
- You can move independently while collaborating closely with product and design partners
- You know when to improve architecture and when to deliver the simplest reliable solution
- You use AI tools to accelerate your work without outsourcing engineering judgment
