About The Role

We are currently looking for a highly skilled Software Engineer with a focus on Autonomy and Simulation to join Owen Daniels. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on the development of advanced autonomy systems for autonomous marine vessels. You will be instrumental in designing, developing, and testing software that enables vessels to operate independently in challenging environments. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software engineering, particularly in real-time systems, robotics, and simulation environments. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to create reliable, scalable, and innovative solutions that meet rigorous industry standards. This position is suitable for someone passionate about product development, eager to solve complex problems, and interested in contributing to the future of autonomous marine technology.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will hold a degree in Computer Science, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a related field, or possess equivalent industry experience. Proficiency in modern C++ (version 14 or newer) is essential, along with a solid understanding of object-oriented programming principles and software architecture. Candidates should demonstrate experience in developing robust software solutions and have a keen eye for detail. Additional desirable qualifications include familiarity with ROS or ROS2, experience with simulation tools such as Gazebo, Unity, or Webots, and knowledge of autonomous systems and robotics software stacks. Experience working on marine or mobile robotics projects, as well as understanding of sensor fusion, path planning, and real-time control systems, will be considered advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Designing and developing high-quality software aligned with system requirements, focusing on simulation, autonomy, and communication modules.
• Creating and maintaining simulation environments to test autonomous behaviors and facilitate system integration.
• Implementing scalable autonomy features including mission planning, perception integration, and decision-making algorithms.
• Conducting comprehensive testing and validation of software through unit testing, simulation-based testing, bench testing, and sea trials.
• Producing detailed and accurate software documentation to support ongoing development and maintenance.
• Participating in peer reviews to ensure software reliability, modularity, and maintainability.
• Collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams to ensure timely delivery of high-quality software solutions and technical documentation.
