Role Description The Senior Software Engineer role is a full-time hybrid position based in Sofia, Bulgaria, allowing a mix of on-site collaboration and work from home. This role involves designing, implementing, and maintaining back-end services and web applications that power compliance-focused software products. The Senior Software Engineer will work closely with product owners and compliance experts to translate complex regulatory requirements into clear technical specifications and scalable architectures. Daily responsibilities include writing clean, testable code, performing code reviews, optimizing performance, integrating AI-powered tooling where appropriate, and contributing to automated testing and deployment pipelines. The role also includes mentoring less-experienced engineers, improving development practices, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, reliable, and well-documented solutions.

Qualifications

  • Strong foundation in Computer Science, including algorithms, data structures, and software architecture.
  • Proficiency in Software Development and Programming, with experience building production-grade systems.
  • Hands-on experience in Back-End Web Development, including APIs, databases, and distributed services.
  • Solid understanding and practical application of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) principles.
  • Experience with modern web frameworks, relational and/or NoSQL databases, and version control (e.g., Git).
  • Background in test-driven development, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing practices.
  • Knowledge of security and compliance considerations in software development; experience with EU or global regulatory frameworks is an advantage.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid environment, collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, and mentor other engineers.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong communication skills in English; Germany language skills are beneficial but not mandatory.
