About The Company

The FWU Institut für Film und Bild in Wissenschaft und Unterricht gemeinnützige GmbH is a non-profit organization owned by the federal states of Germany. Our mission is to provide media services that support the development and expansion of educational media infrastructures at school, regional, and cross-state levels. We specialize in creating web-based educational offerings and distributing digital learning media tailored for classroom use. Additionally, we contribute to the implementation of the DigitalPakt Schule by assisting federal states in various projects. Our portfolio includes producing curriculum-centered media for schools, with approximately 60 new titles (interactive online media) developed annually. With a dedicated team of around 95 employees, we are committed to advancing digital education and fostering innovative teaching resources.

About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Developer (w/m/d) to join our "Mediendienste" department, specifically supporting the Project Schulcloud. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the ongoing development and enhancement of the Schulcloud-Verbund-Software (SVS), a central learning management system (LMS) connecting over 4,000 schools across the federal states of Brandenburg, Thuringia, and Lower Saxony. As the project transitions from the current service provider, Dataport AöR, to FWU, the developer will be integral to ensuring a seamless handover and continued system excellence. This role offers an exciting opportunity to influence digital learning environments at a national level, contributing to the future of educational technology in Germany.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a university degree in computer science, business informatics, media informatics, or a comparable qualification. Extensive professional experience in developing modern web and cloud applications as a full-stack developer is essential, along with a proven track record in designing scalable solutions. Familiarity with the current technology stack, including TypeScript, NestJS, Vue.js, Cypress, Jest, JavaScript, FeatherJS, and Handlebars, is highly advantageous. Experience working within agile development frameworks such as Scrum is required. The candidate should demonstrate strong communication skills, particularly in coordinating with external service providers, and possess excellent command of German (minimum C1 level) and good English skills (minimum B2 level). Analytical thinking, a structured approach, high-quality standards, and effective teamwork are critical attributes for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and enhance core components of the SVS platform to ensure optimal functionality and performance.
  • Implement complex technical and domain-specific requirements within an agile Scrum team, ensuring timely delivery of features.
  • Contribute to the formulation of technical concepts, architecture design, and system design decisions to support project goals.
  • Conduct code reviews and provide technical guidance to external development teams to maintain high coding standards.
  • Mentor junior developers, fostering their professional growth and ensuring best practices are followed.
  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues in both development and operational environments to ensure system stability and reliability.

Benefits

  • Engage in meaningful work that directly impacts the digital transformation of education in Germany.
  • Enjoy a secure employment relationship within a reputable public organization.
  • Competitive compensation aligned with your experience and qualifications, based on the TVöD Bund scale.
  • Initially, a fixed-term full-time position until December 31, 2028, with potential for extension and permanent employment.
  • Access to a job ticket, corporate fitness programs via Wellpass, and a company pension scheme.
  • Work at an attractive location in Munich-Grünwald, with access to public transport and free parking facilities.
  • Flexible working hours, time tracking, and the possibility to work remotely up to 100% to support work-life balance.
