About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Software Developer (w/m/d) to join our "Mediendienste" department, specifically within the Project Schulcloud. This role is integral to the development, maintenance, and enhancement of the Schulcloud-Verbund-Software (SVS), a central learning management system (LMS) connecting over 4,000 schools across the federal states of Brandenburg, Thuringia, and Lower Saxony. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and refining core components of the SVS, ensuring its scalability, stability, and security. You will work within an agile Scrum team, collaborating closely with external partners and internal stakeholders to implement complex technical requirements. The role involves participating in architectural decisions, conducting code reviews, mentoring junior developers, and troubleshooting technical issues to ensure a seamless user experience. As the project transitions from the current service provider to FWU, you will play a key role in the migration process and future operational management of the system, contributing to the digital transformation of education in Germany.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate holds a completed degree in computer science, business informatics, media informatics, or a comparable qualification. You should have several years of professional experience in developing modern web and cloud applications, particularly as a full-stack developer, with a proven track record of designing scalable solutions. Practical experience with the following technologies is highly advantageous: TypeScript, NestJS for backend development; TypeScript and Vue.js for frontend development; testing frameworks such as Cypress and Jest; and legacy systems involving JavaScript with FeatherJS and Handlebars. Experience working in agile development environments, especially Scrum, is essential. You must possess excellent communication skills in German (minimum C1 level) and good proficiency in English (minimum B2 level). Analytical thinking, a structured approach to work, high-quality standards, and strong organizational skills are also critical for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and enhance core components of the SVS to ensure robust and scalable LMS functionality.
  • Implement complex technical and functional requirements within an agile Scrum framework.
  • Contribute to technical concept development, architecture design, and decision-making processes.
  • Conduct code reviews to maintain high standards of code quality and facilitate knowledge sharing.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior developers within the team.
  • Analyze, diagnose, and resolve technical issues related to development and system operations, ensuring minimal disruption.
  • Participate in the migration and transition phases as the project moves from external service providers to FWU’s operational control.
  • Collaborate with external partners and internal teams to ensure the successful delivery of system features and updates.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry best practices to continuously improve the system architecture and development processes.
