Role Description The Full Stack Engineer Lead is a full-time, remote role responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining end-to-end web application features across the front-end and back-end. This role involves leading the technical implementation of key product initiatives, architecting scalable solutions, and ensuring code quality and performance. The lead engineer will collaborate closely with product, design, and wellness experts to build engaging, secure, and reliable user experiences that support AWE’s digital wellness mission. Day-to-day responsibilities include writing clean TypeScript and React code, reviewing contributions from other engineers, integrating APIs and third-party services, optimizing application responsiveness, and contributing to technical decisions and roadmap planning.

Full-Stack Engineering

• 7+ years of professional full-stack experience
• Expert-level TypeScript and React: you set the component architecture, design system conventions, and state management patterns others follow
• Strong backend engineering: REST API design, relational data modelling, service-to-service auth, and performance at scale
• You have built and shipped multi-tenant SaaS products before — you understand what goes wrong with tenancy models under real load and real clients
• Experience with identity systems (OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML, or Keycloak specifically) is a strong advantage
• Comfortable owning the full stack of a feature from data model to UI without handing off between specialists

Architecture

• You can write an ADR that a team of five can align around and execute against
• You have opinions about where to draw service boundaries, when to share infrastructure and when to isolate it, and how to sequence architectural risk across a delivery sprint
• You have made tradeoff decisions under time pressure and can articulate what you chose not to do and why
• Experience with policy engines, RBAC, or attribute-based access control systems is a strong advantage

Team Leadership

• You have led a small engineering team (3–6 people) in a delivery context — not just technically mentored, but coordinated work, unblocked people, and kept a sprint on track
• You can run a sprint planning session, a technical design review, and a post-incident review with equal confidence
• You give feedback directly and receive it well
• You understand that leading a small team while shipping code requires ruthless prioritisation — you do not take on coordination work that pulls you out of your most critical technical contributions

Ways of Working

• You are comfortable in a 12-week fixed-scope launch sprint with real clients going live at the end
• You communicate status, risk, and decisions in writing without being asked
• You flag architectural concerns early — before they become sprint blockers — and come with a proposed path forward
• You treat the codebase as a shared responsibility and hold others to the same standard without creating friction

Qualifications

• Ability to write clean, testable code; familiarity with automated testing and CI/CD pipelines is a plus.
• Strong problem-solving skills, collaborative mindset, and comfort working in a remote, fast-paced startup environment.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Interest in digital wellness, behavioral health, or building products that improve people’s lives is highly valuable.

Compensation: As an early-stage, growing organization, we currently operate on an equity and deferred payment structure. This means payroll is directly tied to company revenue, investment and payouts are issued once the company has achieved set 2026 goals. Upon shared success, compensation will align with competitive industry standards for this role.
