About The Role
As a Staff Software Engineer at Encamp, you will work directly with the CTO to redefine what a small,
agile engineering team can achieve. Your role will be pivotal in sh
aping the technical direction of the organization, particularly in high-impact areas such as
data architecture, systems design, and
API development. You will own complex technical challenges end-to-end, including the development of distributed systems that interact with real-world processes and span multiple platforms. Your work will ensure these systems are reliable, scalable, and performant, supporting the company’s mission of environmental compliance
automation.
The role involves working within a
TypeScript-heavy stack, including
React and Vite on the
frontend,
GraphQL and Node on the
backend, Prisma and Postgres for
data management, and AWS services like Lambda and ECS for deployment. As a senior technical leader, you will set standards for quality, clarity, and best practices, influencing the entire engineering team. This position offers a high degree of autonomy and impact, with opportunities to lead technical initiatives, mentor peers, and collaborate closely with executive leadership on long-term strategies.
Qualifications
- Proven experience designing and shipping complex software systems
- Strong reasoning skills and ability to evaluate trade-offs in technical decisions
- Hands-on experience operating and improving production systems
- Proficiency in TypeScript, React, Node.js, GraphQL, Prisma, Postgres, and AWS services
- Ability to manage ambiguity and develop solutions from conception to deployment
- Experience with AI-native development, tooling, and workflows is a plus
- Excellent communication skills and ability to mentor other engineers
- First principles thinking and technical judgment based on clear reasoning
- Humility, confidence, and honesty in technical discussions
Responsibilities
- Architect and develop distributed systems, data models, and public APIs that support scalable solutions
- Build and enhance customer-facing features from end to end
- Contribute to agent-powered automation and integrations with external agencies
- Shape engineering practices around AI-native development, including tooling, review processes, and codebase design
- Make broad technical decisions, communicate the rationale, and educate team members
- Drive initiatives focused on performance, reliability, developer experience, and architectural evolution
- Mentor and elevate engineering team members through pairing, code reviews, and technical guidance
- Collaborate closely with the CTO on strategic technical planning and long-term vision
