About ODES

ODES is building uncompromising tools for NewSpace. These are already possible to build with today's technology and a few simplifications, so we're building a small team of exceptional, hands-on engineers and scientists to make it happen.

The NewSpace race is real and exciting. From revolutionary research to day-to-day applications that help save lives and our very planet, space technology is already shaping our reality. The promise is vast and greatly unexplored. Mission failure rates are far too high, while time-to-launch and engineering cost can be drastically cut down. We're confident our team can tackle any challenge and are set to bring tried-and-true technologies to NewSpace.

About the team

ODES is one small team building one big thing: a web app that aerospace engineers use to design, validate, and operate spacecraft, from early mission analysis through in-orbit operations. Our software engineers build the product across frontend, backend, data, and simulation; our scientists ground it in real spacecraft physics and validation methodology; and our business team carries the work outward, telling the story, building the pipeline, and turning hard engineering into missions that actually fly.

Everyone here builds the same thing, just from a different seat, software, science, and business all shape the roadmap, the next customer, and the next module. When a mission validated on ODES reaches orbit and survives, that's a win we all own, and you'll help build it.

About the role

We're looking for a full-stack software engineer with an eye for design. You work from first principles, advocate for frequent prototyping and employ data-driven decision making. Above all else, you honor your craft. The New Jersey style and the handmade ethos resonate with you. You'll work on a central web app connecting software, hardware and humans.

Over the next year you'll focus on user-facing features that let engineers interact directly with hardware, workflows and data — building beautiful, highly functional displays so they can easily run and analyze complex simulations. This role gives you a broad, high-level view of the entire company, connecting the software you write directly to the mathematical models and hardware we rely on to build reliable spacecraft. As you prototype on the UI, you'll actively help refine the backbone of our in-house tech. This role is for those who seek maximum agency across every aspect of what we're building.

The ideal candidate moves through design cycles fast and owns the end-to-end process. Our philosophy is to get things built and tested in days or weeks, not months. Because of this, a portfolio is generally required to apply: show us the things you've actually built!

Responsibilities

  • Build and ship core product features for our central web app, directly impacting how people build and validate mission-critical tech every day.
  • Develop highly responsive, intuitive UIs that let engineers seamlessly design and troubleshoot spacecraft.
  • Design and build dedicated internal tools that streamline mission design and system observability.
  • Own major features end-to-end across the stack, from backend architecture all the way to the frontend experience.
  • Iterate rapidly alongside our users, translating their feedback into powerful, reliable software.

Required experience

  • Strong demonstrated experience building and shipping real-world applications autonomously.
  • Comfortable working end-to-end across the stack to take broad ownership of major features.
  • Ability to build clean, fast, intuitive interfaces, translating complex, information-dense simulations with heterogeneous data into highly usable frontends.
  • Strong product sense and design taste, with a track record of earning trust through the consistent delivery of reliable software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience building software for highly technical users — engineers, scientists or data teams.
  • Hands-on experience with complex data visualization or real-time, interactive user interfaces.
  • An exceptional eye for UI/UX design, with the taste to make dense simulation workflows feel effortless to use.

Working at ODES

We're an early-stage deep-tech startup with solid funding and great advisors. We work fully remotely, with a lab in Athens, GR always open for anyone who needs a dedicated space.

Compensation: ODES is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. Compensation is determined based on your qualifications and experience. Our total compensation package also includes generous equity in ODES.

We are an equal-opportunity employer and do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, veteran status, disability or other legally protected statuses.

Interview process

You'll have a discussion with our CTO about something you built and what we're set out to achieve. The second stage is a discussion with all three founders, for both us and you to see if we're a great fit for one another. After that, we'll go hang and have a good laugh!

P.S. Shoutout to Atomic Semi for inspiring us with their own job descriptions :)
