Role Description The Software Engineer will work in a part-time, remote capacity to design, develop, and maintain software solutions that support S.T.A.R. Union’s activities and digital presence. Day-to-day responsibilities include writing clean and testable code, implementing back-end features, and integrating databases or APIs as needed. The role involves collaborating with other student contributors to define technical requirements, troubleshoot issues, and improve existing applications or tools. The Software Engineer will also participate in code reviews, maintain documentation, and help ensure that systems are reliable, secure, and scalable to support workshops, events, and online platforms.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Computer Science concepts, including data structures, algorithms, and basic software architecture.
- Practical experience or coursework in Software Development and Programming, with the ability to build and debug applications.
- Knowledge of Back-End Web Development, including server-side frameworks, APIs, and database integration.
- Understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) principles and their application in modern programming languages.
- Familiarity with version control tools (e.g., Git) and collaborative development workflows.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment, manage time effectively, and communicate clearly with a distributed team.
- Interest in startups, micro-business development, or entrepreneurial initiatives in the technology space.
- Currently enrolled in or recently completed a program in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent self-taught experience).
