About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer with expertise in
JavaScript and
Node.js to join our dynamic technology team at DWP. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and maintaining scalable, high-quality
applications that serve millions of users nationwide. You will work within a multidisciplinary
agile team, solving complex problems and delivering innovative solutions that make a tangible difference in public service. Your responsibilities will include leading technical initiatives, mentoring junior engineers, and championing best practices such as Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Behaviour Driven Development (BDD). Qualifications
- Expert knowledge and extensive experience of modern JavaScript and Node.js technologies, frameworks, and design principles.
- Proven track record in developing high-quality software solutions, demonstrating strong technical leadership.
- Deep understanding of TDD and BDD practices, with experience implementing automated testing frameworks.
- Extensive experience working with APIs, RESTful services, and Microservice Architectures.
- Strong practical knowledge of cloud-based environments such as AWS and Azure.
- Proficiency in SQL and NoSQL databases, including Postgres, MySQL, and MongoDB.
- Experience building and maintaining automated test suites supporting continuous deployment environments.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence and lead multidisciplinary engineering teams and engage stakeholders effectively.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable and resilient applications using JavaScript and Node.js, adhering to best practices and design principles.
- Lead the technical delivery of projects, ensuring high standards of code quality, performance, and security.
- Implement and advocate for TDD and BDD methodologies to support robust automated testing and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define technical requirements and translate them into effective solutions.
- Mentor and support junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
- Contribute to architectural decisions, ensuring systems are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with organizational goals.
- Engage with stakeholders to communicate technical concepts clearly and influence project direction.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends, recommending innovative approaches to enhance service delivery.
