Senior Full Stack Software Engineer
Healthcare Workflow and Integration Platform
Summary
- Senior full stack engineer to build and scale healthcare workflow products that vendors and partners can integrate into their applications, from React user interfaces to TypeScript and Node.js backend services.
- Emphasis on responsive, accessible user experiences, AWS serverless, event-driven processing, reliability, observability, and clean architecture.
- High ownership role in a small team; strong production mindset required
Core Technical Stack
- Languages: TypeScript and JavaScript; Node.js on the backend; HTML5 and CSS3 on the frontend.
- Frontend: React, React Router, MobX and mobx-react-lite; Tailwind CSS for styling; Vite for development and production builds.
- AWS: Lambda, API Gateway, IAM, CloudWatch; Amazon Cognito and AWS Amplify for frontend authentication.
- Workflows & Messaging: Step Functions, SQS, SNS, event-driven architectures
- Data: DynamoDB (primary); relational database experience helpful for integrations with the existing platform.
- Infrastructure as Code: Terraform (preferred), CloudFormation; CDK familiarity helpful
- Architecture: Clean Architecture / SOLID patterns, dependency injection (e.g., Inversify-style patterns)
- Developer tooling and delivery: Git, npm, TypeScript compiler, ESLint, TSLint, and CI/CD with GitHub Actions or GitLab CI.
Responsibilities- Design, implement, and operate product features end to end, spanning React user interfaces, APIs, and backend services in a serverless AWS environment.
- Build and maintain APIs and typed frontend integrations with strong contract discipline, including validation, versioning, error modeling, and backward compatibility.
- Implement durable, observable workflow processing (idempotency, retries, backoff, DLQs, replay tools)
- Model and access data efficiently (DynamoDB key design, indexes, pagination, performance)
- Build responsive, accessible React screens, forms, routing, and MobX state management for task-driven workflows, data collection, collaboration, and status tracking.
- Implement secure authentication, role-based user experiences, real-time workflow updates, and collaborative editing with reliable loading, error, and reconnect behavior.
- Raise the quality bar through code reviews, automated tests, and pragmatic engineering standards
- Improve operational excellence (metrics, structured logging, tracing, alerting, runbooks)
- Collaborate cross-functionally to translate healthcare workflows and vendor integration needs into reusable products, reliable APIs, and usable interfaces.
AI-Assisted Development (Required Experience)
We use modern AI-assisted development tools heavily to accelerate delivery while maintaining high quality and correctness. Candidates should have substantial, hands-on experience with:
· Claude (e.g., Claude Code or Claude for code generation/refactoring, planning, test generation, and iterative review cycles)
· OpenAI Codex (e.g., CLI/workflows for implementation, debugging, test fixing, and structured plan execution)
What we expect you to be able to do:
· Use Claude/Codex to iterate on implementation quickly without sacrificing code quality
· Generate and refine backend, frontend, and end-to-end tests; improve reliability and reduce regressions.
· Use AI tools responsibly: validate outputs, enforce standards, and avoid “prompt-to-prod” without review
· Own assigned initiatives end to end, driving work independently and proactively addressing challenges. Communicate proactively and transparently, and take accountability for outcomes—both successes and setbacks—while delivering results aligned with team and company goals.
Required Qualifications
- 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, including production delivery across frontend and backend systems.
- Strong TypeScript, JavaScript, and Node.js experience in production.
- Strong React experience, including hooks, component design, routing, state management (MobX or comparable), and frontend API integration.
- Proficiency with HTML, CSS, responsive design, accessibility, and frontend build tooling; familiarity with Tailwind CSS and Vite.
- Experience writing frontend component and integration tests and automated end-to-end tests.
- Strong AWS serverless experience (Lambda + API Gateway + IAM + CloudWatch)
- Substantial hands-on experience with Claude and OpenAI Codex for implementation, debugging, testing, and review.
- Experience with event-driven systems and workflow orchestration (Step Functions and/or queues)
- Proven reliability engineering instincts: idempotency, failure-mode thinking, safe deploys, incident response
- Strong API design and frontend integration skills, with the ability to maintain backward compatibility over time.
Preferred Qualifications
- Healthcare or regulated-domain experience, including EHR/EMR integrations, interoperable messaging, and secure handling of patient information.
- Experience with DynamoDB at scale (access patterns, GSI design, cost/performance tuning)
- Strong IaC experience with Terraform and multi-environment deployments
- Experience with Git, CI/CD, GitHub Actions or GitLab CI, and AWS CodeBuild/CodePipeline.
- Familiarity with structured logging standards, distributed tracing, and metric-driven ops
- Experience with Socket.IO, Yjs/CRDT collaboration, Slate editors, Chart.js reporting, and Cognito/Amplify authentication.
- Experience integrating with existing Node.js/Express services, MySQL, Sequelize, and Redis; familiarity with Docker and AWS ECS deployments.
Work Style / What Success Looks Like- Ownership: drives work from ambiguous problem to production-ready solution
- Production-first: designs frontend and backend features for usability, observability, operability, and safe rollouts.
- Pragmatic architecture: clean boundaries without over-engineering
- Clear communicator: documents decisions, tradeoffs, and operational expectations
Location / Work Model- Remote work environment
- Candidate will be in the United States and be on an East Coast working schedule
- Travel up to 10% as needed for on-site working sessions with broader team
