About the Role

Hercules is seeking a Senior or Staff Product Software Engineer to help shape the future of AI-driven software development. In this role, you will build and own user-facing features across the Hercules platform, working on products that help users create, preview, deploy, and integrate full-stack applications.

You will contribute across the product experience, from AI-assisted development and application building to developer tools and platform capabilities. The role calls for strong software engineering fundamentals, product and design judgment, and the ability to ship high-quality features independently. You will work with a modern technology stack and use advanced AI coding tools to improve your development workflow.

Key Responsibilities

● Build and own user-facing features across the Hercules AI Agent, App Builder, SDK, mobile app, and platform.

● Develop features for the AI Agent, which enables users to build full-stack applications using AI.

● Improve the App Builder experience for creating, previewing, and deploying applications.

● Build and maintain developer SDK capabilities, including Hercules Commerce, Hercules Auth, Hercules CMS, and Hercules Files & Media.

● Contribute to the PWA-based mobile application-building experience.

● Develop platform features that provide a user-friendly experience alongside enterprise-grade security and reliability.

● Apply sound system design, architecture, data modeling, and API design principles.

● Write clean, maintainable code and contribute effectively within monorepos.

● Independently deliver product features and iterate based on customer needs and product feedback.

● Create intuitive, polished user experiences using modern frontend technologies.

● Build and improve SaaS capabilities such as subscriptions, entitlements, product analytics, A/B testing, feature flags, internationalization, and notifications.

● Use advanced AI coding tools and workflows to improve development speed and productivity.

● Ship features quickly, learn from feedback, and make improvements while maintaining high standards of quality.

Required Skills and Experience

● Strong software engineering fundamentals, including system design, architecture, data modeling, and API design.

● Ability to write clean, maintainable code and work effectively in monorepos.

● Demonstrated product sense and a track record of independently shipping multiple customer-facing features.

● Strong UX/UI judgment and an appreciation for modern frontend design and development.

● General SaaS experience, including billing, subscriptions, entitlements, product analytics, A/B testing, feature flags, internationalization, and notifications.

● Strong experience with TypeScript and React.

● Familiarity with containers, PostgreSQL, and Redis.

● Ability to use advanced AI coding tools effectively and incorporate emerging AI development practices into everyday work.

Technology Stack

Hercules uses a modern development stack that includes:

● Languages and frontend: TypeScript, React, Tailwind.

● AI development: AI SDK and models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google.

● Data and storage: PostgreSQL, Redis, and ClickHouse.

● Backend and application infrastructure: Hono, Drizzle ORM, and Temporal.

● Infrastructure and observability: Docker, Infrastructure as Code using CDK and Terraform, and OpenTelemetry (Otel).

● Cloud platforms: Cloudflare and AWS.

Location and Work Arrangement

Hercules' founding team works from its San Francisco office near Kearny and Bush streets. The company strongly prefers in-office work but is open to remote arrangements for exceptional candidates who can work within US time zones and travel to the office regularly.

Compensation and Benefits

● Salary: $100,000–$300,000, plus equity. Compensation varies based on seniority, equity, and location.
