About The Role
We are seeking a skilled Web Application Developer to join our remote team and contribute to the enhancement of The National Map, a critical resource provided by the U.S. Geological Survey. In this role, you will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and improving public-facing web applications that facilitate access to authoritative geospatial data. You will work with existing codebases to implement new features, optimize user interfaces, and ensure the seamless presentation and processing of geospatial information. Your work will directly support the mission of making trusted geospatial data more accessible and useful to government agencies, researchers, and the public.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Web Development, or a related field
- 5+ years of relevant experience in web application development
- Proven experience developing, enhancing, and maintaining responsive, user-focused web applications and interfaces
- Strong proficiency in JavaScript, React, and modern JavaScript libraries
- Ability to document development workflows, technical decisions, and changes effectively
- Excellent collaboration skills and initiative to work proactively within a team environment
- Familiarity with Python scripting for geospatial data processing (desired)
- Proficiency with modern web development tools such as Node.js, Vite, Next.js, Typescript, or similar
- Experience developing web mapping applications using ArcGIS JavaScript API or comparable geospatial mapping technologies
- Exposure to AWS cloud infrastructure and services (preferred)
- Develop, enhance, and maintain responsive web applications that provide access to geospatial data
- Improve the functionality and usability of existing web interfaces to better serve end-users
- Create visually appealing and user-friendly web interfaces for geospatial data exploration and analysis
- Support the processing and delivery of geospatial data through scripting and automation
- Document development workflows, technical decisions, and updates through comprehensive documentation and code comments
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including GIS specialists, data scientists, and project managers
- Identify opportunities for application improvements and propose innovative solutions
- Support deployment and integration of applications within cloud environments such as AWS
