About The Role
Brightside is seeking a Full-Stack Staff Software Engineer, Growth, with a strong product sense and a high degree of autonomy. In this role, you will collaborate closely with Product, Design, and
Marketing teams to drive the rapid iteration and enhancement of our top-of-funnel and intake processes. Your focus will be on expanding Brightside’s reach by optimizing the member acquisition journey, including the purchasing funnel and converting prospects into active members through technological excellence and innovation. You will also play a key role in executing strategic third-party partnerships to facilitate referrals and expand our network.
As a Staff Software Engineer, Growth, your impact goes beyond writing high-quality code. You will identify high-leverage opportunities across care discovery, mental health assessment, and provider booking experiences, connecting technical investments to measurable patient, operational, and business outcomes. Your expertise will help simplify complex workflows, improve system performance, and ensure solutions are reliable, scalable, and maintainable. Additionally, you will leverage AI,
automation, and
data-driven approaches to streamline operations, reduce overhead, and enhance decision-making processes. Your leadership will also involve mentoring team members, raising the technical standards, and fostering a culture of experimentation and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Significant experience shipping production software, typically over 10+ years or equivalent high-impact experience
- Strong proficiency with Ruby on Rails and modern TypeScript/React frameworks
- Solid experience with relational databases, including schema design, query optimization, data modeling, and safe migrations
- Experience integrating with external APIs in production environments, handling retries, idempotency, rate limits, partial failures, and observability
- Proven ability to operate autonomously on ambiguous, cross-functional problems
- Strong product judgment, understanding user needs, operational workflows, edge cases, and tradeoffs
- Data instincts with the ability to analyze metrics, logs, dashboards, and product analytics to inform decisions
- Experience mentoring engineers, conducting code and design reviews, and establishing best practices
- Excellent written communication skills for design documentation, RFCs, incident reports, and decision records
- Comfort working within regulated or high-trust systems where correctness, privacy, and auditability are critical
- Familiarity with AI-native development practices, including AI coding tools, agents, and automation for high-quality software delivery
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with modularized monoliths, CQRS, event-driven architectures, or service boundaries within large applications
- Knowledge of HIPAA, PHI handling, SOC 2, or other regulated industry standards
- Experience designing AI-assisted workflows with an emphasis on human review, safety, and auditability
