About the Company

The client develops digital products and educational tools designed to support students and educators. Its engineering teams build new applications and modernize legacy Java systems into cloud-based solutions using React, Node.js, and AWS. The organization also focuses on improving software quality, automation, testing practices, and the responsible adoption of emerging technologies, including Generative AI.

About the Role

Talent Software Services is seeking a Full Stack Node.js Developer for a remote opportunity with its client. This is a lead-level engineering position that combines hands-on development with technical leadership, architecture, mentoring, and cross-team collaboration.

You’ll help build new products and modernize existing applications using React, Node.js, TypeScript, and AWS. Alongside core development, you'll guide technical decisions, improve testing and automation frameworks, and help establish reliable engineering practices. The role also includes advising teams on Generative AI applications, evaluating emerging technologies, and helping develop patterns and tools for their safe implementation.

The ideal candidate is comfortable leading projects from requirements and prototyping through design, coding, testing, deployment, and production support. You should be able to work across the technology stack, coach other engineers, and balance rapid experimentation with maintainable, secure, and scalable software.

Key Responsibilities

•Design and deliver scalable, secure, reusable software using modern technologies, established design patterns, and cloud-native practices.

•Lead technical architecture and define, document, and communicate design patterns for the relevant systems and product areas.

•Collaborate with product owners, architects, designers, and stakeholders to translate requirements into practical software solutions.

•Break down new product capabilities into clear, testable technical changes.

•Build and prototype applications, particularly React-based web applications, to evaluate new product ideas and technologies.

•Modernize legacy Java applications into React and Node.js applications hosted on AWS.

•Develop and maintain clean, well-documented code that supports future development and reuse.

•Create technical and non-technical documentation for engineering teams and stakeholders.

•Improve testing frameworks, automation, code quality, and development practices.

•Participate in or lead Agile/Scrum ceremonies, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily stand-ups, and demos.

•Conduct code reviews, mentor engineers, provide constructive feedback, and help resolve complex technical challenges.

•Support production troubleshooting and maintain reliable user experiences.

•Follow development standards, security practices, CI/CD principles, and operational readiness requirements.

•Configure and improve observability using AWS CloudWatch, X-Ray, logging, metrics, and alerts.

•Serve as a subject matter expert for Generative AI application implementation across the organization.

•Work with Enterprise Architecture to review and establish implementation patterns for Generative AI tools.

•Advise on and, where feasible, develop tools and infrastructure that support the safe deployment of Generative AI solutions.

•Stay current with Generative AI developments and share knowledge through team discussions, meetings, and presentations.

•Advise internal teams developing staff education around Generative AI.

•Partner with Product Owners to prioritize backlogs and identify improvements to engineering systems and processes.

•Contribute to technical interviews and help evaluate engineering talent.

Required Qualifications

•At least seven years of professional experience designing, building, testing, and managing scalable web applications in AWS-hosted environments.

•At least three years of experience building backend applications using Node.js with TypeScript.

•Strong hands-on experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Node.js, Next.js, APIs, and AWS serverless technologies.

•Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redshift, and DynamoDB.

•Hands-on experience implementing Generative AI applications, such as RAG chatbots, model fine-tuning, or other LLM-powered tools.

•Strong knowledge of AWS services, including Lambda, SNS, SQS, S3, Step Functions, IAM, KMS, API Gateway, CloudWatch, and DynamoDB.

•Experience with asynchronous programming and event-driven messaging patterns.

•Experience implementing observability for software products using CloudWatch, X-Ray, logging, metrics, and alerts.

•Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.

•Ability to review and improve software architecture and code structure for testability, maintainability, and scalability.

•Experience leading frontend design and implementation, including component strategy, accessibility, performance optimization, and user-focused interface development.

•Demonstrated ability to mentor and coach less experienced engineers.

•Strong analytical thinking, structured problem-solving, and practical decision-making skills.

•Effective written and verbal communication and documentation skills.

•Ability to collaborate with team members, resolve technical issues, and work with Product Owners on backlog priorities.

•Demonstrated ability to propose ideas and implement improvements to systems and processes.

•Ability to provide actionable feedback, lead technical discussions, and participate in engineering interviews.

•Authorization to work in the United States for any employer.

Preferred Qualifications

•Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related engineering field.

Additional Expectations

•Interest in expanding educational and career opportunities through mission-driven work.

•Curiosity about emerging technologies and willingness to experiment with and adopt AI-driven solutions.

•Ability to learn and apply new digital tools independently and proactively.

•Commitment to continuous learning, respectful feedback, and improvement based on user input.

•Ability to solve complex problems, make data-informed decisions, and focus on the highest-priority work.

•A collaborative and empathetic approach to working across teams and perspectives.

•Commitment to engineering quality, shared success, and continuous improvement.
