About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Java Full Stack Engineer to join our dynamic Investment Experience Technology team at USAA. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of our next-generation investment services platform. As part of our agile and startup-minded environment, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing scalable, high-quality software solutions that enhance our digital investment offerings. Working with a modern technology stack—including Go, Java, APIs, OpenShift, and other USAA technologies—you will play a pivotal role in delivering innovative, digital-first experiences to our members and financial advisors. This position is based in one of our key locations—San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, Phoenix, AZ, or Charlotte, NC—and involves working in a flexible environment requiring in-office presence four days a week.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess a bachelor’s degree or have equivalent experience, with a minimum of four years in software development demonstrating deep technical expertise. An approved certification from recognized coding bootcamps or training providers such as CodeUp, Galvanize, VetFIT, or eFIT can substitute for a degree. Candidates must have at least two years of experience delivering full lifecycle software solutions, including leading code and design reviews. A solid understanding of Java and other programming languages such as Swift, Objective-C, Cobol, JavaScript, Kotlin, C++, HTML, CSS, SQL, Go, or Python is essential. Basic knowledge of cloud technologies and tools, along with troubleshooting production issues, is required. Strong business acumen in operations, risk management, and emerging industry trends will set candidates apart. Experience with APIs, containerization, CI/CD pipelines, Kafka, data streaming, batch processing, and workflow technologies will be highly valued.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, code, and test complex technical solutions aligned with business needs.
  • Investigate and resolve application and system issues through troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
  • Conduct systems analysis to recommend and implement operational improvements.
  • Prepare and install complex solutions by defining system specifications, standards, and programming requirements.
  • Adhere to the software development lifecycle, ensuring quality and timely delivery.
  • Participate in design reviews and learn key system design principles to enhance technical skills.
  • Mentor junior engineers and review peer code to promote best practices and technical excellence.
  • Identify, measure, monitor, and control risks associated with business activities in compliance with policies and procedures.
