We're growing fast, and our visual identity is central to how we introduce the brand to new customers.

The role

We built a bespoke, single-tenant ERP that replaced five SaaS dashboards, and it now runs the company: sales and dropshipping, the CS inbox, purchasing, the supplier portal, warehouse fulfilment and all internal reporting. One engineer built it.

We are hiring the person who takes the whole thing over - not to maintain it, but to put an engineering practice around it. The system works and is used every day by 66 accounts. It also has no staging environment, no CI, no test suite, and a review gate that in August covered 3 of 109 production deploys. Your first quarter is about closing that gap without stopping delivery, and your first year is about the modules the business is waiting on.

What you’ll do

1. Platform architecture

Own the shape of the system, not just the tickets. Decide what belongs in an RPC, what belongs in an edge function, and what should stop being a cron. Make the schema legible to someone who didn’t write it.

2. Supabase and Postgres

This is the centre of the job, not a supporting skill. Schema design and migrations. Row Level Security, roles and grants. Query performance. Edge functions in Deno/TypeScript. Realtime and storage where they apply. You should be as comfortable reading a query plan as reading a React component.

3. Security remediation

You will own the security and permissions hardening project, the credential rotation, the move to a real per-role permission model, and the regression testing that proves the readers still work. This is scoped, understood and authorized- it needs an owner, not a diagnosis.

4. Delivery infrastructure

Stand up what does not exist: a staging environment, CI on pull requests, migration testing, and a review gate for ERP changes. Storefront work already goes through PRs. Bring the ERP up to the same standard, and design it so it does not slow the operations team down- they are used to same-day fixes and we intend to keep that.

5. Observability and reliability

Build the monitoring for sync health, webhook delivery, cron output and data drift between our mirrors and the systems they mirror.

6. Integration and data integrity

Shopify is our system of record for inventory. You’d own the remediation path - writing back to the correct system, restoring the BOM writeback mechanism, and resolving duplicate SKU mappings across variants. This work directly gates purchasing forecast accuracy and the Q4 buy.

7. Roadmap delivery

The near-term queue: the RMA/returns module (backend is built, design is approved, adoption is zero), warehouse tooling for the Miami facility, the purchasing forecast surface, and supplier portal improvements. Expect to ship features and pay down debt in the same sprint.

8. Working with the business

You’d be the only engineer in the room for ERP requirements. Run the biweekly requirements meeting with the warehouse manager, the CS leads and purchasing, translate operational asks into scope, and push back when a request is a workflow problem rather than a software problem. Written specs, decisions recorded, meetings that produce action items.

What we’re looking for (Required)

• 6+ years building and running production software; at least 2 as the senior or sole owner of a system other people depend on daily Deep PostgreSQL — schema design, migrations against live data, permissions and RLS, performance work. Not “I use an ORM.”
• TypeScript across the stack, including React (19, hooks, modern patterns) and server-side TS/Deno
• Hands-on Supabase in production, or equivalent depth in Postgres + serverless functions that transfers directly
• Experience introducing CI, staging and review process into a codebase
• Fluent agentic development with Cursor (or a comparable AI-native editor) and GitHub-based workflow
• Production experience with the Shopify backend APIs, specifically:
• Admin GraphQL API — products, variants, inventory items and levels, locations, orders, fulfilment orders, draft orders, customers, metafields; cost-of-goods fields on inventory items
• Webhooks — subscription management, HMAC verification, idempotent handling, retry and replay semantics, and reconciling gaps when delivery is missed
• Rate limiting — the leaky-bucket cost model on GraphQL, and building bulk reads and writes that survive it
• Bulk Operations and the ability to reason about when a bulk job beats paginated reads across a catalogue of tens of thousands of variants
• Practical understanding of Shopify’s inventory model — the variant / inventory item / inventory level split, multi-location behaviour, committed vs available, and why quantities drift
• Familiarity with Shopify Flow, Markets, selling plans, and where storefront behaviour is configuration rather than code
• Written communication strong enough that your specs and decision records are the artefact non-engineers rely on
• Business-fluent English

Strongly preferred:

• ERP, WMS, inventory or supply-chain domain experience
• Data reconciliation between systems of record and downstream mirrors — deciding which side is authoritative and writing back to it
• Integration experience with other commerce-adjacent platforms: helpdesk, CRM, telephony, 3PL or returns systems
• LLM/agent features in production, with judgement about where they belong

Not required: a large-team background, formal management experience, agency or DTC brand pedigree, or Shopify theme and Liquid work — this role is backend and data, not storefront. Judgement under ambiguity matters more here than any of those.

• Location: Remote
• Schedule: Full-time, minimum 40 hours/week; 09:00 AM to 06:00 PM EST. 
• Time off: 10 days paid time off per year. 
• Compensation: $3K to $3.5K per month
• Tools: Hours logged via Hubstaff; dedicated remote workspace expected.
