About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Software Developer (m/w/d) specializing in measurement, testing, and assembly systems to join our dynamic R&D team. As a key member of our 20-person interdisciplinary team, you will be responsible for developing software solutions primarily in Python to automate and control measurement, testing, and assembly processes in laboratory and production environments. Your work will involve creating system-native solutions within distributed architectures, ensuring seamless integration, and enhancing the efficiency and quality of our processes. You will play a vital role in advancing our internal software infrastructure, transforming research prototypes into production-ready solutions, and supporting the continuous improvement of our systems. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to innovative photonics technologies that impact various high-tech fields globally.

Qualifications

  • Completed university degree in Technical Computer Science, Physics, Computer Engineering, Automation Technology, or a comparable technical field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in IT and software development, ideally within a manufacturing environment in the photonics sector.
  • Proven track record in successfully executing software development projects, particularly with interfaces to mechanics, optics, measurement technology, production, and IT systems.
  • Expertise in Python programming, with additional knowledge of LabVIEW being advantageous.
  • Solid understanding of technical-physical principles, with foundational knowledge in photonics preferred.
  • Structured, analytical, and solution-oriented work approach, with thorough documentation practices and experience using version control systems.
  • Enjoyment of working in interdisciplinary technical teams and effective communication across various technical domains.
  • Proficiency in German and English at least at C1 level.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement internal software solutions in Python to automate and control optical assembly and measurement processes.
  • Develop measurement and evaluation software, including user-friendly interfaces, for characterizing and measuring laser diode modules for internal use.
  • Integrate these system-native solutions into distributed architectures, optimizing their performance and reliability.
  • Enhance existing software developed by R&D, transforming prototypes into robust, production-ready applications.
  • Create test cases in collaboration with the team and execute unit and integration tests to ensure software quality.
  • Build and maintain a scalable software infrastructure for Python applications to support future growth and complexity.
  • Conduct independent debugging and root cause analysis to resolve application issues promptly.
