About The Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and innovative Senior Software Engineer to join BNY Mellon's Loans Platform team. This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of financial technology, combining AI, blockchain, and advanced software engineering to revolutionize how complex credit agreements are onboarded, serviced, and settled. The successful candidate will take ownership of critical components within a strategically important platform that is designed to replace legacy systems and introduce modern, scalable, and automated solutions for structured credit products, including notes and CLOs.

This position requires a hands-on approach, with the candidate actively involved in coding, system ownership, and delivering features that process real financial transactions. The team emphasizes a small, senior, and highly skilled environment, where AI tools are integrated throughout the software development lifecycle to maximize productivity and innovation. The role also involves providing technical leadership, establishing engineering standards, mentoring team members, and contributing to the platform's strategic roadmap. Success in this role means delivering a high-quality, client-adopted product that reduces operational costs and drives revenue growth for the firm.

Qualifications

• Over 10 years of professional experience in software engineering with a proven track record of delivering production-grade systems.
• Deep expertise in at least one core layer of the technology stack, such as backend services, frontend development, AI/ML systems, blockchain, or data infrastructure, with the ability to contribute across multiple areas.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and API design principles.
• Hands-on experience with programming languages and tools such as Java, Python, React, Kafka, Oracle, Snowflake, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Fluency in AI-assisted software development, including utilizing coding agents like Codex and Claude to accelerate development without compromising quality.
• Experience with large language models, prompt engineering, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures, or AI/ML integration is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with blockchain technology, smart contracts, or on-chain transaction systems is a strong plus.
• Experience in financial services or capital markets is advantageous, with a quick learner mindset for domain-specific knowledge.
• A results-driven approach emphasizing building and shipping functional prototypes and systems over extensive theoretical discussions.
  
  

Responsibilities

• Take primary ownership of one critical area within the platform, while contributing to other components across the technology stack, including backend services, frontend interfaces, AI orchestration, smart contracts, and policy logic.
• Design, develop, and maintain end-to-end components from initial technical discovery through to deployment in production environments.
• Architect and implement event-driven systems utilizing Kafka, containerized deployments, and resilient distributed systems patterns to ensure high availability and scalability.
• Lead technical discovery efforts and rapid prototyping to validate new capabilities before committing to full-scale production development.
• Establish and enforce coding standards, architectural best practices, and engineering processes that ensure maintainability as the team expands.
• Mentor engineers, conduct code reviews, and foster a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate closely with product managers, operations teams, and compliance officers to translate business needs into robust, scalable solutions.
• Communicate technical strategies, trade-offs, and project updates clearly and effectively to senior leadership and stakeholders.
