Datanest was founded in Christchurch with a simple goal: make environmental and engineering data easier to collect, manage, understand and deliver.

Today, our platform is used by organisations across New Zealand, Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States. As we continue to grow internationally, we're investing heavily in the next generation of our platform—and we're looking for an experienced Full-Stack Software Developer to help build it.

You'll work directly with our founders, product team and customers. You'll help shape technical decisions, influence product direction and own features from concept through to release.

What you'll be working on

You'll work across both new product development and continuous improvement of the Datanest platform.

Your work may include:

• Building new platform functionality
• Improving application architecture and scalability
• Enhancing platform performance and reliability
• Developing APIs and third-party integrations
• Creating intuitive user experiences
• Building reporting, analytics and AI-powered features
• Reducing technical debt and improving maintainability
• Participating in code reviews and technical discussions
• Collaborating with product managers and customers
• Taking ownership of features from concept through to release

We release regularly, so you'll see your work delivering value to customers without lengthy corporate release cycles.

About you

We're looking for someone who enjoys solving problems rather than simply implementing specifications.

You'll be comfortable taking ownership of your work, contributing ideas and working collaboratively across technical and non-technical teams.

Ideally you'll have around five years of commercial full-stack development experience and enjoy building modern SaaS products.

• Laravel (PHP)
• Vue.js
• TypeScript / JavaScript
• PostgreSQL or other relational databases
• REST APIs and system integrations
• Git
• AWS, DevOps or CI/CD
• Agile development environments
• AI-assisted development tools and modern coding workflows
• Golang experience—or an interest in learning it

Experience working with scalable SaaS products, distributed systems or enterprise software would be highly regarded.

Qualifications

Ideally you'll have:

• Five or more years of commercial full-stack development experience
• Experience building modern SaaS applications
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication
• A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent commercial experience

Location

This role is based in our Christchurch office.

We believe the best products are built through close collaboration, quick conversations and working together as a team.

• Be legally entitled to work full-time in New Zealand
• Have excellent written and spoken English

This is an office-based role and is not available as a remote position.
