Role Summary

The primary focus is full-stack.Net/React development, system architecture, and API design, with frontend (React) capability mandatory. The role will initially lead delivery of API-first projects (internal and external) and progressively take ownership of broader platform architecture and technical standards.

The expectation is that this person writes production code daily, leads by example, and provides technical direction through execution and sprint delivery, engaging directly with the Product team.

Reporting Line

Reports to: Development Manager, Assigned Product Manager

What This Role Is (and Is Not)

This is:

• A senior engineer who can also lead by example
• Deeply technical, on-the-tools
• Accountable for delivery quality and architecture
• Comfortable switching between coding, design, and technical decision-making

Key Responsibilities

Core Development (Primary)

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend systems, APIs, and services
• Lead development of RESTful and event-driven APIs (internal and external)
• Write high-quality, testable, maintainable production code
• Drive backend and frontend performance, reliability, and security
• Actively use AI development tools (e.g. Copilot, ChatGPT, code generation, test generation) to improve velocity and quality
• Provide technical input as required to other developers through:
• Code reviews
• Pairing
• Architecture and design guidance
• Uphold engineering standards (code quality, testing, documentation)
• Help support development practices around:
• CI/CD
• Automated testing
• API lifecycle management
• Identify technical risks early and address them pragmatically

Delivery & Ownership

• Own delivery of assigned projects end-to-end
• Balance speed vs quality-make trade-offs explicit
• Work closely with product and business stakeholders to translate requirements into working software
• Investigate, diagnose, and resolve complex system issues
• Ensure solutions are scalable, extensible, and supportable

Required Technical Skills (Non-Negotiable)

Fullstack & Architecture

• Strong commercial experience with .NET (.NET Core / ASP.NET)
• Expert-level C#
• Highly experienced with React
• Strong understanding of object-oriented and domain-driven design
• Proven experience designing and building RESTful APIs
• Experience with scalable, multi-tenant systems
• Strong SQL skills (Postgres and/or SQL Server)
• Experience with cloud-hosted databases (e.g. AWS RDS)

Frontend (Supporting Skillset)

• Solid working knowledge of React
• Strong HTML5 / CSS3 fundamentals
• Comfortable contributing to frontend codebases

Engineering Practices

• Automated testing (unit, integration)
• CI/CD pipelines
• Code reviews and quality gates
• Version control (Git)
• Documentation that developers actually use

AI-Assisted Development

• Highly experienced with using AI tools to accelerate development
• Understands where AI helps and where human judgement is required
• Able to integrate AI-generated output safely into production systems

Experience & Profile

• 7+ years of commercial software development experience
• Proven senior-level contributor on production systems
• Comfortable in a small team where ownership is unavoidable
• Pragmatic, delivery-focused, low-ego
• Can “walk and chew gum”: code, think, and lead simultaneously

What Success Looks Like

• APIs delivered cleanly, on time, and adopted
• Have a healthy working relationship with Product Management team by managing expectations and delivery on estimates on feature releases
• Codebase improves, not degrades, over time
• Meet Ai Augmented delivery expectations with no impact on architecture
• Development Manager spends less time firefighting technical issues
• Architecture decisions age well
