Overview

The Associate Cloud Software Engineer plays a vital role in ensuring the success of Emergent Tree clients by contributing in all aspects of our SaaS application platform. You will focus primarily on building and improving user-facing features, along with understanding backend functionality and supporting cloud operations, troubleshooting, and system reliability. You will work directly with senior technical leadership, receiving structured mentorship and gradually taking on broader responsibility across the platform. This position is ideal for someone seeking to build intuitive user experiences who also wants broad exposure to the infrastructure and systems that power them in a real-world SaaS platform.

Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Full-Stack Web Application Development:
• Design and implement new user-facing features for our SaaS applications.
• Build, adapt and extend APIs and related HTTP-based services to support application functionality.
• Investigate customer issues and system alerts to identify root cause, and then implement effective fixes that improve UI/UX, performance, and reliability.
• Update and extend automated regression tests to cover new/updated application functionality.
• Maintain and refactor existing code as needed for clarity and scalability.

Cloud Infrastructure Operations:

• Help manage and improve our AWS environment (compute, networking, security, monitoring).
• Participate in strengthening our security posture and operational reliability.
• Use SQL and AWS tools (e.g. CloudWatch, Athena) to investigate production data issues and validate application behavior.
• Contribute to infrastructure improvements, Linux system administration and serverless automation efforts.

Internal Technical Expertise:

• Assist non-technical colleagues with occasional software or device issues.
• Help manage, leverage and secure business technology systems (e.g. G-Suite, Hubspot, MDM) as need arises.
• Translate technical issues into clear explanations and solutions.

Education/Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent experience.
• 0-5 years of professional experience; internships, coursework, and personal projects are valued.

Familiarity with some of the following technologies is a plus:

• Modern JavaScript frameworks (Ember.js, Vue, React)
• Web browser core technologies (HTML/CSS, HTTP/Fetch/REST APIs)
• Backend API development (Java/Scala/Kotlin, Jersey/JAX-RS, jOOQ/JPA, Maven)
• Cloud system tooling (Linux, Bash/curl/jq, Docker containers, AWS Lambda, CloudFormation)
• Basic data query & analysis (SQL/MySQL, Excel pivot tables, other statistical tools)

Work Environment:

The Associate Cloud Software Engineer will primarily work remotely, with frequent communication over video conference, instant messaging, and regular meetings in a professional office setting in Austin, TX. The work environment is fast-paced and dynamic, with regular project delivery milestones.

Physical Demands:

The job requires working at a computer for extended periods of time. Occasional lifting, standing, walking and carrying of light equipment may be required.

• Starting Salary: $85,000 annually (based on qualifications)
