About The Role
We are seeking a skilled Full Stack Software Developer (SMA 2 —
Cloud Service Support) to join our team at CBO. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing,
testing, and maintaining web applications and
backend services that support the Congressional Budget Office’s operational needs. The position involves working across the entire technology stack, including
Python/FastAPI for
backend development,
ReactJS for
frontend interfaces,
PostgreSQL for database management, and
Docker containers deployed on AWS
cloud infrastructure. You will operate within an
agile, trunk-based development environment, contributing to continuous integration and delivery pipelines. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical foundation, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team to deliver secure, reliable, and scalable software solutions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Proficiency in Python, FastAPI, ReactJS, PostgreSQL, and Docker.
- Experience with deploying, monitoring, and troubleshooting applications in AWS cloud environments.
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or GitHub Actions is preferred.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to write clean, maintainable, and secure code.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residence status is required.
- Security clearance of Public Trust (Tier 2) is necessary for this position.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and deploy new features for web applications utilizing ReactJS for the frontend and Python/FastAPI for backend services.
- Build and maintain RESTful APIs, ensuring proper validation, error handling, versioning, and comprehensive documentation using OpenAPI/Swagger standards.
- Create responsive, accessible user interfaces that meet CBO’s UX standards and comply with Section 508 accessibility guidelines.
- Implement and optimize PostgreSQL data models, queries, migrations, and stored procedures to ensure data integrity and performance.
- Participate actively in an agile development process, including code reviews, sprint planning, and daily stand-ups, with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Package and deploy containerized applications using Docker, supporting deployment to AWS services such as ECS or EKS.
- Collaborate with team members to configure cloud environments, manage secrets, and ensure application security and compliance.
- Monitor application performance and operational health using AWS CloudWatch and other tools, investigating and resolving defects, performance issues, and security vulnerabilities.
- Write and maintain automated tests (unit, integration, regression) to ensure code quality and support user acceptance testing (UAT).
- Assist in reducing technical debt by refactoring code, improving documentation, and implementing best practices for security and performance.
