Contract Full Stack Engineer
About the Role
We are looking for a contract Full Stack Engineer to help build an AI-powered gov tech platform.
This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who can move quickly, take ownership, and build reliable software for high-stakes government and public sector workflows. You should be comfortable working across the stack, integrating AI into real products, and making practical technical decisions that balance speed, security, and scalability.
The role is open to remote candidates in the U.S., but preference will be given to candidates based in the Los Angeles area who are able to come into the office when needed.
Responsibilities
- Build and ship full stack features across frontend, backend, database, and APIs
- Develop AI-powered workflows that help automate or improve government operations
- Integrate with third-party APIs, data sources, and internal systems
- Work closely with product, design, and leadership to turn complex requirements into usable software
- Write clean, maintainable, and secure code
- Debug, troubleshoot, and improve existing systems
- Help make technical decisions around architecture, infrastructure, and implementation
- Communicate clearly around progress, blockers, risks, and tradeoffs
What We’re Looking For
- 2-4 years of professional full stack engineering experience
- Strong experience with TypeScript, React, Next.js, Node.js, and backend APIs
- Experience with databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or MongoDB
- Experience building production-grade web applications
- Comfort working with AI APIs, LLMs, or AI-assisted development workflows
- Strong understanding of security, reliability, and data privacy best practices
- Ability to work independently in a fast-moving startup environment
- Strong product sense and ability to simplify complex workflows
- Clear communication and high ownership
Nice to Have
- Experience working on gov tech, civic tech, compliance, legal, procurement, or public sector software
- Experience with AI agents, document automation, RAG, workflow automation, or data extraction
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, Azure, Vercel, or Heroku
- Experience with authentication, permissions, audit logs, and role-based access control
- Experience working with sensitive data or regulated environments
- Based in or near Los Angeles and able to come into the office when needed
