Senior Full Stack Developer

Full Time
Job Summary
As a Senior Full Stack Developer, you will lead the design and development of modern, end-to-end web applications for Thoriva’s AI-enabled enterprise solutions. This role sits at the intersection of front-end engineering, backend services, user experience, cloud-native development, accessibility, performance, security, and AI-enabled application development for citizen developers.
You will work with product, engineering, data, security, and domain teams to turn complex program requirements into reliable, secure, scalable, and auditable digital capabilities across the full stack. The ideal candidate has strong experience building responsive user interfaces alongside APIs, microservices, integrations, workflow services, and enterprise-grade data services, and is comfortable owning a feature from database to browser.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain full-stack features spanning responsive web interfaces, Java backend services, REST APIs, and integration components.
- Build scalable capabilities for Thoriva's application development platform, enabling business users, mission operators, and citizen developers to quickly deploy solutions into operations.
- Develop reusable front-end components, state management patterns, and design-system-aligned UI alongside REST APIs, event-driven services, batch components, and business logic.
- Package and ship services as containers to AWS EKS — authoring Dockerfiles, Kubernetes manifests/overlays, and Helm charts, and owning the build-to-rollout path including image registry (ECR) and versioned, reversible deploys.
- Partner with data, AI/ML, product, and design teams to surface model outputs, risk scores, confidence ratings, evidence packages, and reviewer actions in intuitive, explainable user experiences.
- Integrate LLM and agent capabilities — model catalogs, prompt management, tool/function calling, MCP-style integrations, RAG, and human-in-the-loop review — into production application flows.
- Build secure, auditable data access patterns for sensitive data; implement authentication (native, LDAP, OIDC/OAuth, MFA), role-based access, CSRF/session hardening, logging, exception handling, and operational monitoring.
- Support integration with relational databases, object storage, caches, message queues, file interfaces, external APIs, identity providers, and cloud services.
- Lead architecture discussions, design reviews, code reviews, sprint planning, and release activities.
- Mentor mid-level and junior developers, set engineering standards, and raise the quality bar — including standards for effective and safe AI-assisted development.
- Create technical documentation, API specifications, component docs, deployment instructions, and support runbooks.
- Troubleshoot production issues, improve reliability, and optimize front-end and backend performance.
Required Qualifications
Experience
- 10–12 years in full stack, front-end, or backend software engineering, or a closely related role.
- Hands-on experience designing and building both modern web UIs and backend services/APIs/microservices.
Backend
- Strong, current, hands-on Java (11+, ideally 21)
- Java build and deployment tooling: Maven or Gradle; servlet containers (Tomcat), Spring Boot, or Jakarta EE.
- REST API design, service-oriented and microservice architecture, authentication/authorization, structured logging, and error handling.
- Additional backend languages (Python, Node.js, Go, C#) are a plus but do not substitute for Java.
Front End
- Strong JavaScript/TypeScript and a modern framework. React preferred (Vue/Angular considered).
- Experience with modern build tooling (Vite, esbuild, Webpack) and monorepo workflows (Turborepo, Nx, pnpm workspaces).
- State management at scale (MobX, Redux, Zustand, TanStack Query, or similar).
- Component libraries and design systems (Tailwind CSS, shadcn/ui, Radix, MUI) and data visualization (ECharts, D3, Recharts).
- Solid HTML/CSS, responsive design, cross-browser behavior, accessibility, and front-end performance optimization.
Cloud
- Demonstrated production AWS experience
- EKS/Kubernetes: deployments, services, ingress, ConfigMaps/Secrets, kustomize overlays or Helm, rollouts and rollbacks.
- ECR and container lifecycle, including multi-architecture builds (linux/amd64 vs arm64) and image tagging/promotion discipline.
- Core services: S3, IAM roles and least-privilege access (Pod Identity / IRSA), ALB, ACM/TLS, Route 53, VPC fundamentals.
- Docker and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred).
AI-Assisted Engineering
- Daily, fluent use of AI coding tools (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or equivalent) for implementation, refactoring, code review, test generation, and debugging.
- Sound judgment about where AI accelerates work and where it does not — the ability to verify, correct, and reject AI output rather than accept it, and to catch plausible-but-wrong changes before they ship.
- Familiarity with agentic development workflows, MCP servers/tools, and prompt and context engineering for engineering tasks.
- Willingness to define and evangelize team standards for AI-assisted development, including code review and security expectations for AI-generated code.
Data & Delivery
- PostgreSQL (or comparable: SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL) — schema design, migrations, query performance; NoSQL exposure a plus.
- Agile delivery, CI/CD (GitHub Actions), Git, automated testing (Vitest/Jest, JUnit, Playwright), and release management.
- Ability to translate business and technical requirements into reliable end-to-end designs and implementation plans.
- Strong communication with product owners, architects, designers, data/ML engineers, security teams, and business stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- LLM application patterns: RAG, vector databases, model serving (KServe, SageMaker), evaluation harnesses, guardrails, token/cost management.
- Redis, Zookeeper, Kafka or other message queues; event-driven architecture, workflow orchestration, rules engines, case management.
- Object storage and S3-compatible systems (MinIO); data warehouse integration.
- Secure data handling: PII/PHI, encryption at rest and in transit, secrets management, audit trails.
- Observability: Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, CloudWatch.
- Python for data/ML tooling and platform extensions.
- Experience with onshore/offshore delivery teams.
