About the Opportunity

CornerStone Technology Talent Services is partnering on a search for a Platform Software Engineer to join a small, highly collaborative technology environment supporting a mission-critical proprietary business platform.

This is an excellent opportunity for a well-rounded software engineer who enjoys owning work across the application stack rather than operating within a narrowly defined front-end or backend silo.

The platform supports complex business workflows involving operational data, financial information, document processing, analytics, reporting, and integrations with other enterprise systems. You will work closely with senior technology leadership to build new functionality, troubleshoot production issues, maintain integrations, and continuously improve an established production application.

This team has also embraced AI-assisted software development as part of its everyday engineering workflow. We are particularly interested in engineers who already use tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or comparable agentic coding platforms productively and understand both their capabilities and their limitations.

What You'll Do

Full-Stack Platform Development

• Develop and enhance production features across a React front end, Python-based API/backend, and relational SQL database layer.
• Take clearly defined requirements from specification through development, testing, code review, and production release.
• Extend an established codebase while following existing architectural patterns, coding standards, and design conventions.
• Build functionality that moves cleanly through the entire stack—from database schema changes to APIs to the user interface.
• Participate in code review and incorporate technical feedback into production-ready solutions.

Production Troubleshooting & Application Support

• Investigate and resolve issues reported by internal platform users.
• Trace problems across the UI, application/API, database, integration, and source-system layers rather than treating symptoms in isolation.
• Diagnose data inconsistencies and determine where breakdowns are occurring.
• Resolve application defects and smaller enhancements independently while appropriately escalating larger architectural concerns.
• Proactively identify defects or data-quality issues even when they fall outside your immediate assignment.

Data & Systems Integration

• Support integrations between the application and enterprise platforms such as CRM, accounting, and document-management systems.
• Troubleshoot synchronization failures, API/integration issues, and field-mapping problems.
• Perform data backfills, schema updates, mapping changes, and routine integration maintenance.
• Help ensure data remains accurate as information moves between systems.

Reporting & Automation

• Develop and maintain automated dashboards and executive-level reporting.
• Generate scheduled reports and business documents programmatically, including Excel workbooks, presentations, and other reporting outputs.
• Validate reported information against source systems and maintain a high standard of accuracy, particularly with financial data.

AI-Assisted Engineering

• Use modern agentic coding tools as part of your regular software-development workflow.
• Apply engineering judgment when reviewing, testing, and refining AI-generated code rather than treating AI output as production-ready by default.
• Help build and extend AI-powered application capabilities involving areas such as:
• Document review and extraction
• Workflow automation
• Business-data analysis
• Scoring and decision-support workflows
• Conversational interfaces
• Reporting automation
• Contribute to production LLM capabilities where appropriate, including RAG, tool use, extraction workflows, and prompt evaluation.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for a true full-stack engineer with strong debugging instincts, not someone whose experience is limited to isolated feature development.

The strongest candidate will bring:

• 4+ years of professional software engineering experience, including applications deployed and supported in production.
• Strong production development experience with Python, ideally using Flask, FastAPI, or Django.
• Experience with a modern JavaScript framework, with React strongly preferred.
• Strong relational database and SQL skills, including:
• Complex queries
• Schema modifications
• Data troubleshooting
• Query/performance optimization
• Ability to independently implement functionality spanning the database → API/backend → user interface.
• Experience troubleshooting production software beyond application code alone.
• Comfort working within a substantial existing codebase rather than requiring a greenfield environment.
• Strong understanding of APIs, integrations, data movement, and synchronization issues.
• Experience using Claude Code, Cursor, or another agentic AI development environment in meaningful production development work.
• Strong written communication and the ability to operate effectively in a distributed, asynchronous environment.

Particularly Valuable Experience

Candidates will stand out with experience involving one or more of the following:

• Microsoft Azure, particularly Azure App Service, Azure SQL, and Key Vault
• AWS or Google Cloud environments
• Financial-data-intensive applications
• FinTech, real estate, investment, infrastructure, or similar business platforms
• Production LLM or generative AI applications
• Retrieval-augmented generation (RAG)
• AI-driven document extraction
• Agentic workflows and tool calling
• Salesforce or other CRM integrations
• Programmatic generation of XLSX, PPTX, or PDF files
• CI/CD pipelines
• Application monitoring and observability
• Small engineering teams where developers share both feature-development and production-support ownership.

The Profile We Want to Find

This role is especially well suited for an engineer who can say:

“Give me the issue or requirement, and I can follow it through the database, backend, API, integrations, and front end until I understand what is happening and can get it working correctly.”

The ideal person is technically capable without needing to be the system architect. They are comfortable receiving architectural direction, working within patterns established by senior leadership, taking ownership of execution, and bringing back thoughtful questions when something requires a larger design decision.

Just as importantly, this person should enjoy debugging. A candidate who only wants greenfield feature development is less likely to thrive here. The work combines feature delivery with real-world production ownership, data investigation, integration maintenance, reporting, and continuous platform improvement.
