About The Role
We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Software Developer to join the Enterprise Systems Development (ESD) unit at the Naval Nuclear Laboratory. This pivotal role involves leading the design, configuration, and implementation of a modern facility management IT solution utilizing the ServiceNow platform. The successful candidate will play a crucial part in supporting the technical transition of NNL's Integrated Workplace Management System (IWMS) to PrimeNet, executing complex data migration activities, and developing automated business metrics and reporting tools to facilitate data-driven decision-making. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on enterprise-level systems, collaborate with diverse stakeholders, and lead innovative projects that enhance operational efficiency across the organization. The role requires a combination of technical expertise, leadership skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving, ensuring the delivery of high-quality solutions aligned with enterprise goals.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with at least 7 years of related experience. Demonstrated expertise in configuring and extending enterprise platforms such as ServiceNow is essential, along with a proven track record of leading large-scale data migration efforts and implementing or modernizing enterprise IT systems. Strong background in developing applications tailored to facility and maintenance management processes, coupled with expertise in metrics and analytics—including defining KPIs, designing dashboards, and performing data analysis—is highly preferred. Candidates should have a history of delivering maintainable, well-documented solutions following standard software development lifecycle practices. Experience with Microsoft Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI) to build applications, workflows, and dashboards is also highly desirable. Excellent communication skills, leadership abilities, and a commitment to high-quality work are critical for success in this role.
Responsibilities
The Principal Software Developer will be responsible for supporting the technical transition of NNL's IWMS to PrimeNet, including configuring, customizing, integrating, and testing the system on the ServiceNow platform. They will plan and execute complex data migration activities, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of asset, work management, and operational data through profiling, mapping, and validation processes. Developing and maintaining applications and tools to support preventive and corrective maintenance planning and management will be a core function. The role involves designing, automating, and maintaining metrics, dashboards, and reports that provide actionable insights into facility and maintenance performance at various organizational levels. Collaboration with business stakeholders is essential to understand requirements, translate them into technical solutions, and ensure systems and metrics align with enterprise operational needs. The candidate will also evaluate and implement additional IT systems and integrations to enhance engineering, maintenance, and operational capabilities site-wide. Providing technical leadership, mentoring team members, and promoting best development practices are key responsibilities to ensure high-quality project delivery and continuous improvement.
