About the Role

We are building a lightweight, multi-currency point-of-sale and inventory application as part of the analytics ecosystem at SCOPSIS. It runs on web and mobile in a later phase, integrates with barcode scanners, manages inventory and SKU data, handles real-time currency conversion, and pipes sellout data into our analytics platform.

This is a greenfield build. You will own it end to end architecture, backend, frontend, and deployment and grow with the product over the long term.

Responsibilities

Foundation

•     Scaffold the project, configure CI/CD pipelines, and set up environments

•     Design and implement the PostgreSQL schema: stores, users, SKUs, inventory, transactions, scan events, exchange rates

•     Build the authentication system (JWT, role-based: cashier / manager / admin)

•     Develop and maintain the core REST API in Node.js (Express or Fastify)

Core Application

•     Build the full sales and checkout flow: create transaction → add items → payment → receipt

•     Integrate barcode/QR scanner support via the Web USB API with a camera-based fallback

•     Implement inventory management: stock levels, movements, and reorder alerts

•     Build SKU table management with full CRUD and CSV import

•     Implement multi-currency support with real-time exchange rate handling

Reporting and Integrations

•     Generate daily and weekly sellout summary reports

•     Build data export in CSV and JSON formats

•     Set up a webhook or scheduled push to pipe data to the SCOPSIS analytics platform

Polish and Handoff

•     Package the web application as a PWA (offline-capable)

•     Produce documentation: API docs, deployment guide, and onboarding README

•     Support UAT and resolve post-launch issues

Qualifications & Skills

•     4+ years building full-stack products end to end, not just individual features

•     Strong command of React and Node.js, both in TypeScript

•     PostgreSQL: comfortable writing migrations, indexes, and complex queries

•     REST API design with proper auth flows and role-based access control

•     Scanner integration experience: Web USB, camera-based barcode reading, or hardware serial

•     Able to work independently and ship without hand-holding you will be the primary owner of this product

Nice to Have

•     Azure DevOps beyond basic pipeline configuration

•     Experience with multi-currency financial systems or exchange rate APIs

•     Prior exposure to analytics platform integrations or data pipeline work

Strong Plus

•     React Native for the mobile phase

•     Redis for caching and session management

•     Experience building offline-first or PWA applications

•     Familiarity with FMCG, retail, or point-of-sale data structures
