There are jobs where you inherit a list of tickets.

This isn’t one of them.

Command Ops Systems is looking for an exceptional software engineer to join our company and take a meaningful role in the future of our technology.

We’re at an important stage of the company, and we’re looking for someone who sees the opportunity in getting involved early and wants to find out how far they can take it.

You don’t need the longest résumé in the room.

You need the ability.

Who we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone smart, ambitious and relentlessly curious.

Someone who learns quickly.

Someone who can look at something they haven’t seen before, understand it and figure out what comes next.

You might already be an accomplished senior engineer.

Or you might be the person who hasn’t been given their big opportunity yet.

Maybe you don’t have ten years at major technology companies. Maybe your résumé doesn’t immediately tell us how good you are.

That’s okay.

If the capability is there, we want to meet you.

We’re much more interested in how you think, what you’ve built, how quickly you learn and what happens when you encounter a problem you don’t immediately know how to solve.

The role

This is a full-time position dedicated exclusively to Command Ops.

You’ll work on proprietary software, take on meaningful engineering responsibility and contribute to the continued evolution of the platform.

You’ll be writing code, solving difficult problems, working with modern technology and contributing to decisions that can have a lasting impact on the company.

You’ll work closely with the founder and have a voice.

We want someone willing to challenge assumptions, bring ideas forward and tell us when they believe there’s a better way.

We’re intentionally not publishing detailed information about our technology or architecture in a public job posting. Candidates progressing through the interview process will learn considerably more about the platform and the opportunity.

What we’re looking for technically

You need a strong foundation in modern software engineering.

Experience with backend development, modern web applications, APIs, databases, cloud infrastructure, integrations, security, AI/LLM technologies and production SaaS environments can all be valuable.

But we’re not hiring by keyword.

And we’re not expecting one person to walk through the door knowing everything.

What matters is having enough technical foundation to do the job, enough intelligence to understand unfamiliar systems and enough drive to learn the things you don’t know.

If you’re missing something, we care a lot about how quickly you can close the gap.

Experience

There is no arbitrary minimum number of years.

There is no requirement that you’ve worked for a famous technology company.

A computer science degree isn’t mandatory either.

If you have significant professional experience, great.

If you’re earlier in your career and know you’re capable of considerably more than you’ve had the opportunity to demonstrate, we want to hear from you too.

We’ll give someone their shot if they can show us the ability.

The opportunity

This is the part that matters.

We’re not looking for someone who simply wants another software job.

We’re looking for someone who wants to become part of something early, take real responsibility and have the opportunity to grow with it.

For the right person, this role can develop into significant technical ownership and leadership within Command Ops.

Nothing about that is promised because of a title.

It will be earned.

If you’re exceptional, you’ll be given room to prove it.

We have big ambitions for Command Ops.

We’re looking for someone who does too.

Compensation will reflect capability and experience, with an expected base salary of $100,000–$150,000 CAD per year.

For an exceptional candidate who becomes an important part of the long-term future of Command Ops, we’re also open to discussing an equity component as part of the overall compensation structure.

Location & commitment

Edmonton-area candidates are welcome, and working together in person has real advantages.

But we won’t let geography prevent us from meeting the right person.

We’re open to exceptional candidates elsewhere in Canada and will consider a remote arrangement for the right fit.

Regardless of location, this is not a freelance position, side project or agency engagement.

We’re looking for someone who wants to join the company and dedicate their professional working time to Command Ops.

How to apply

Send us your résumé or LinkedIn profile.

But don’t worry if it doesn’t tell your whole story.

Show us something you’ve built.

Tell us what you personally did.

Tell us about a difficult problem you figured out.

Tell us about something you didn’t know how to do when you started but learned because you needed to.

And tell us about something you’ve built that you’re genuinely proud of.

Professional work counts.

Side projects count.

Open-source work counts.

Something you built at 2:00 in the morning because you couldn’t stop thinking about the idea counts.

We’re not trying to find the person who looks best on paper.

We’re trying to find the person who might be extraordinary if someone gives them the opportunity.
