Eccalon develops solutions for complex technology challenges across several markets, including machine learning, cybersecurity, aerospace and defense, materials sciences, advanced manufacturing, sports science, biotechnology, and health and life sciences.
The company emphasizes innovation, security, teamwork, and inclusion. Eccalon aims to provide a supportive work environment, opportunities for career advancement, and benefits designed to support employees and their families.
About the Role
Eccalon is seeking a Full Stack Developer to design, develop, and deliver production software across Department of Defense (DoD), intelligence, and enterprise programs. This position involves building applications across the full technology stack, from React and Next.js interfaces to Node.js and Python APIs and AWS-hosted data services.
You will also work with large language models (LLMs) and AI-assisted development tools to build intelligent application features and improve development workflows. Working closely with DevOps, UX/UI designers, and program leadership, you will help deliver secure, scalable applications in a compliance-driven environment. The role requires strong software engineering fundamentals, practical AI integration experience, and an understanding of application security.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain full-stack web applications, taking ownership of features from the user interface through APIs and data layers.
- Build React and Next.js applications and reusable component libraries that support consistent user experiences across products.
- Integrate LLM capabilities using the Anthropic Claude API and other model providers, applying prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and agentic workflows.
- Translate designs and wireframes into responsive, accessible code, using AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code where appropriate.
- Develop and maintain secure, scalable back-end services and REST APIs using Node.js and Python.
- Integrate applications with AWS services, including Cognito, Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, and RDS/PostgreSQL, and implement OAuth2/OIDC authentication and just-in-time (JIT) provisioning.
- Apply security and data protection practices aligned with NIST 800-171 and CMMC requirements, including OWASP Top 10 mitigations and code-level security reviews.
- Build accessible interfaces aligned with WCAG 2.1 and ensure consistent rendering across devices and browsers.
- Write, test, and document maintainable code while following engineering standards, trunk-based development practices, and peer code reviews.
- Review code for security, maintainability, and the accuracy of AI-generated code, and mentor junior engineers on development best practices.
- Troubleshoot complex issues involving application components, LLM APIs, cloud services, and third-party authentication providers.
- Design and manage relational and NoSQL data models using PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, and MongoDB, optimizing queries and data access for performance and cost.
- Apply prompt engineering techniques, including few-shot examples, tool use, and system prompt design, while evaluating risks such as prompt injection, hallucinations, and data leakage.
- Collaborate with UX/UI designers, product managers, DevOps, and program leadership to translate requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Stay informed about developments in AI tools, web frameworks, and cloud-native technologies, sharing relevant knowledge through demonstrations and documentation.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- At least 3 years of experience as a Full Stack Developer delivering production web applications.
- Strong proficiency in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript/TypeScript (ES6+), React, and Next.js, including reusable component development.
- Proficiency in Node.js and Python for server-side development, with experience in Express.js, Nest.js, and/or Next.js API routes.
- Hands-on experience integrating LLM APIs, such as Anthropic Claude or OpenAI, into production applications, including prompt development, RAG pipelines, and tool-use or agentic workflows.
- Experience with PostgreSQL and DynamoDB, including query optimization and schema migrations.
- Understanding of REST API design, microservices architecture, and AWS services such as API Gateway, Lambda, Cognito, S3, and CloudFront.
- Proficiency with Git and trunk-based development workflows, including pull-request collaboration through GitHub or GitLab.
- Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, particularly GitLab CI/CD, AWS deployments, and security-focused DevSecOps practices.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and explain technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders.
- Comfort working in a regulated, compliance-aware environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in DoD, federal contracting, or another regulated environment.
- Familiarity with NIST 800-171, CMMC, or FedRAMP requirements.
- Experience building AI-powered features using RAG, vector databases such as pgvector or Pinecone, and orchestration frameworks such as LangChain or LlamaIndex.
- Familiarity with Model Context Protocol (MCP) patterns and structured tool-use design for LLM applications.
- Experience with Azure services, including Azure AD or GCC High, or AWS GovCloud in a DoD or federal contracting environment.
- Experience using TypeScript across front-end and back-end codebases.
- Experience with Playwright or Cypress for end-to-end testing.
- Experience collaborating on UX/UI designs using Figma or similar tools.
