About The Role
We are seeking a talented
Java Full Stack Engineer to join our dynamic Investment Experience Technology team within USAA’s Technology group. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on a cutting-edge investment services platform, designing and implementing high-impact solutions that enhance digital experiences for our members and financial advisors. As part of a startup-minded team, you will contribute to building scalable, high-quality software using modern technologies, including
Go,
Java, APIs, and OpenShift. This position provides a flexible work environment, with in-office presence required four days a week, and can be based in San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, Phoenix, AZ, or Charlotte, NC. Please note that relocation assistance is not available for this role.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, with at least four years of software development expertise demonstrating deep technical understanding within specific disciplines or technologies. Additional certifications from recognized coding bootcamps such as CodeUp, Galvanize, VetFIT, or eFIT can substitute for a degree. Candidates should have at least two years of experience delivering comprehensive technology solutions across all phases of the software development lifecycle, including leading code and design reviews.
Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as
Java, Swift, Objective-C, Cobol,
JavaScript,
Kotlin, C++,
HTML,
CSS,
SQL,
Go, or
Python is required. A basic understanding of
cloud technologies and tools, along with developing business acumen in operational, risk management, and industry practices, is preferred. Experience supporting troubleshooting efforts, articulating technical challenges, and working with
cloud platforms will be advantageous. Knowledge of containerization, CI/CD frameworks, and data streaming technologies like Kafka will set candidates apart.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, code, and test complex technical solutions aligned with project requirements and standards.
- Investigate and resolve intricate application and system issues, including troubleshooting production problems to ensure system stability and performance.
- Conduct comprehensive systems analysis to recommend and implement improvements in operations, policies, and procedures.
- Prepare and install complex solutions by defining system specifications, standards, and programming requirements.
- Adhere to the software development lifecycle, ensuring quality and compliance throughout all phases.
- Participate in design reviews, contributing to the development of key system design principles and best practices.
- Mentor junior engineers and review peers' code to promote best practices and continuous learning within the team.
- Identify, measure, monitor, and control risks associated with business activities, ensuring adherence to risk and compliance policies.
