Truckbud is building an on-demand delivery platform for items that do not fit in a standard car, such as furniture, appliances, and marketplace purchases. The company connects customers and retailers with vetted local drivers to provide reliable same-day large item delivery.

We are seeking a Founding Engineer will design, build, and maintain Truckbud’s core product, including backend services, frontend interfaces, and integrations with third-party systems. This is a full-time, on-site role based in Winnipeg, MB, working closely with the founders to define the technical roadmap, set architecture standards, and make key product decisions. Day-to-day responsibilities include developing scalable features, improving performance and reliability, managing deployment pipelines, and implementing monitoring and analytics. The role also involves collaborating on product strategy, validating solutions with users and drivers, and iterating quickly based on feedback and data. As an early team member, the Founding Engineer will help establish engineering best practices, contribute to hiring decisions, and shape the company’s technical culture.

Qualifications

• Strong backend development skills (e.g., Node.js, Python, Ruby, or similar server-side languages) and experience designing RESTful or GraphQL APIs.
• Proficiency with modern frontend frameworks (e.g., React, Vue, or similar) and building responsive, user-friendly web interfaces.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and DevOps practices (e.g., AWS, GCP or Azure; containerization with Docker; CI/CD pipelines).
• Ability to design scalable data models and work with relational and/or NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB).
• Comfort with product discovery, working closely with non-technical stakeholders, and translating customer needs into technical solutions.
• Strong problem-solving skills, ownership mindset, and willingness to work in a fast-paced startup environment.
• Experience in logistics, marketplace platforms, or on-demand delivery products is an asset.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience; prior early-stage or founding engineer experience is highly beneficial.
