Founded in 2022, we are backed by leading global venture capital and are now prioritizing our full-scale expansion into the U.S. market. Our flagship product, ZUMEN, is a cloud-based solution centered on "drawing data" — the lifeblood of manufacturing. ZUMEN is currently deployed across 14 countries, including the United States, where we already serve a growing base of manufacturing customers. Developed by our Japan-based product and engineering team, ZUMEN has established itself as the industry standard in Japan and continues to scale globally. Now, leveraging this global momentum, we are launching a new, separate product line for the U.S. defense and aerospace industry — purpose-built to meet ITAR, FedRAMP, and CMMC compliance requirements that the existing ZUMEN cannot serve. This position leads that launch.

The Mission: Stand Up a Compliance-First New Product, and the Engineering Org That Sustains It. We are building a new product, purpose-built for the U.S. defense and aerospace industry. This is a separate product line from ZUMEN, even as it carries forward ZUMEN's core functionality. Compliance-grade architecture and security cannot be retrofitted — they have to be built into the foundation from day one. Here's what "new product" means in this role: Functional capabilities and UX are ported from ZUMEN. The drawing-data workflows that have been validated across 14 countries are brought into the new product as-is. Product vision, feature definition, and UX are owned by our Japan-based product team. You will not redefine them. Everything underneath is built from scratch. A new backend architecture, a new security posture, and a new compliance program — designed to meet ITAR, FedRAMP, and CMMC from day one. This is the actual greenfield work, and where the creativity of this role lives. Put differently: same workflows on the surface as ZUMEN, but a fundamentally different machine underneath, purpose-built for U.S. defense customers. The mission does not end at first release. You are also responsible for building the U.S. engineering organization that will maintain, evolve, and re-release this product on an ongoing basis — through hiring, organizational design, and team leadership. This is not a product-vision role. Product strategy and feature direction remain owned by Japan HQ. If you are looking for a role to define product direction or build something from a blank page on the user-facing side, this is not the right fit. What we need is an execution-first leader who can stand up a compliant new product and the engineering organization to sustain it. The U.S. entity is structured as a satellite of our Japan HQ, and this position leads that satellite. If you are uncomfortable operating within an HQ-driven decision structure, this position is not a fit.

About the Role

This position leads the launch of a new product line for the U.S. defense and aerospace industry, ensuring compliance and building the engineering organization to sustain it.

Responsibilities

• Build the compliant backend from scratch: Design, build, and operate the backend architecture, security posture, and compliance program (ITAR / FedRAMP / SOC2 / CMMC) for the new product. Includes data residency, access controls, audit logging, and incident response.
• Faithfully port ZUMEN functionality into the new product: Take features defined and validated by the Japan product team and ship them with full functional parity. No spec redefinition.
• Build and lead the U.S. engineering organization: Hire, structure, and manage the U.S.-based engineering team responsible for ongoing development, maintenance, and release of the new product over the long term. The mission is not a one-time launch — it is a sustainable engineering capability.
• Japan–U.S. bridge: Serve as the operational and cultural counterpart between Japan HQ (where product is defined) and the U.S. organization. Translate spec into U.S.-deployable implementation, surface structured market feedback to Japan, and avoid forking the product line.
• Disciplined product execution: Run the U.S. release cadence with rigor — release management, QA, customer feedback loops, and quality assurance against a defined spec.
• Customer-facing compliance discovery: Partner with U.S. defense primes, Tier-1/2 suppliers, and manufacturers to surface compliance gaps, security requirements, and deployment constraints. Channel structured findings back to Japan HQ rather than building parallel U.S.-only product tracks.

Qualifications

Must-Haves

• U.S. Person (U.S. citizen or permanent resident — required for ITAR compliance)
• 5+ years of hands-on backend, infrastructure, or security engineering experience, with a proven track record of building and operating production systems in regulated environments
• 3+ years of B2B SaaS product leadership experience
• Hands-on experience operating in ITAR / FedRAMP / SOC2 / CMMC-compliant SaaS environments — you have personally led or co-owned a compliance program (adjacent exposure is not enough)
• Disciplined executor: proven track record of shipping against a defined product spec rather than redefining product vision
• Comfortable operating in a satellite organization where product direction is set by HQ

Preferred Skills

• Experience as a U.S.-side counterpart to a Japanese (or East Asian) HQ
• Business-level Japanese language proficiency
• Network within the U.S. defense, aerospace, or government-facing SaaS ecosystem
• Manufacturing or industrial software domain experience
• Prior experience porting or localizing a SaaS product across regulatory regimes (e.g., GDPR, PIPL, ITAR)
• Hands-on familiarity with cloud security architecture in regulated environments (AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, etc.)

Pay range and compensation package

• Annual Base Salary: $150,000 - $250,000
• Location: 100% Remote (U.S.-based candidates only)
