About The Role

The Lead Software Engineer, Back End at Capital One is a pivotal role responsible for leading a portfolio of diverse technology projects and guiding a team of skilled developers. This position involves designing, developing, and implementing scalable, secure, and high-performance microservices and full-stack systems that meet regulatory requirements and enhance customer experiences. The successful candidate will be at the forefront of digital transformation initiatives, working closely with product managers, data scientists, and other stakeholders to deliver innovative cloud-based solutions. This role demands a proactive leader with a passion for emerging technologies, a strong coding background, and the ability to mentor and inspire engineering teams. Qualifications

Qualified candidates should possess a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. A minimum of 4 years of professional software engineering experience is required, excluding internships. Candidates must have at least 1 year of experience working with cloud computing platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud. Preferred qualifications include a Master’s Degree, over 7 years of experience in programming languages such as Java, Scala, Python, Go, or Node.js, and at least 2 years of experience with cloud services. Experience with open-source frameworks, team leadership, and Agile practices is highly desirable. Strong understanding of distributed microservices architecture, container orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes, and proficiency in SQL and NoSQL databases will set candidates apart.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a diverse portfolio of technology projects, overseeing the development and deployment of microservices and full-stack systems aligned with regulatory and business needs.
  • Mentor and guide a team of developers, fostering a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.
  • Collaborate with digital product managers, data scientists, and other stakeholders to design and deliver cloud-based solutions that enhance customer engagement and operational efficiency.
  • Stay current with emerging technology trends and participate in internal and external technology communities to bring innovative ideas into the organization.
  • Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code, and evaluate code quality within the team.
  • Utilize programming languages such as Java, Python, SQL, Node.js, Go, and Scala, leveraging AWS tools and services, container orchestration, and open-source frameworks.
  • Ensure systems are secure, scalable, and compliant with industry regulations and best practices.
