About The Company

The FWU Institut für Film und Bild in Wissenschaft und Unterricht gemeinnützige GmbH is a non-profit organization owned by the federal states of Germany. The institute specializes in providing media services to enhance and expand educational media infrastructures at school levels, both within individual states and across borders. Its core activities include developing web-based educational offerings and distributing digital learning media tailored for classroom use. The FWU actively supports the implementation of the DigitalPakt Schule initiative, assisting federal states in various projects aimed at digital transformation in education. Additionally, the institute produces curriculum-centric media for schools, creating approximately 60 new interactive online titles annually. With a dedicated team of around 95 employees, FWU is committed to advancing digital education and fostering innovative learning environments.

About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Software Developer (w/m/d) to join our "Mediendienste" department, specifically within the Project Schulcloud. This pivotal role involves the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the Schulcloud-Verbund-Software (SVS), a central learning management system (LMS) serving over 4,000 schools across the federal states of Brandenburg, Thuringia, and Lower Saxony. The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring the system's scalability, stability, and usability as the FWU gradually takes over the operational responsibilities from the current service provider, Dataport AöR, with a planned full transition by 2029. The position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the digital transformation of education and to work on innovative solutions that directly impact teaching and learning environments.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a university degree in computer science, business informatics, media informatics, or a comparable qualification. They should have several years of professional experience in developing modern web and cloud applications, particularly as a full-stack developer with a focus on scalable solutions. Practical knowledge of the following technologies is highly advantageous: TypeScript/NestJS for backend development, TypeScript/Vue.js for frontend, Cypress and Jest for testing, and legacy systems involving JavaScript with FeatherJS and Handlebars. Experience working within agile development frameworks such as Scrum is essential. Strong communication skills in German (minimum C1 level) and good English proficiency (minimum B2 level) are required to facilitate effective collaboration with external partners and team members. The candidate should demonstrate analytical thinking, a structured and results-oriented approach, high quality standards, and excellent organizational and team skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and enhance core components of the Schulcloud-Verbund-Software (SVS) to ensure robust functionality and user experience.
  • Implement complex technical and domain-specific requirements within an agile Scrum environment, ensuring alignment with project goals.
  • Participate in the design and architecture discussions, contributing to technical concepts and strategic decisions for the LMS platform.
  • Conduct thorough code reviews and provide technical guidance and support to external development teams to maintain high-quality standards.
  • Mentor and support junior developers, fostering their growth and ensuring best practices are followed across the team.
  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues encountered during development, deployment, and operation phases, ensuring sustainable solutions.

Benefits

  • Engage in a meaningful and future-oriented mission to digitize and improve the educational landscape.
  • Secure employment within a stable, public-sector organization with a reliable work environment.
  • Competitive remuneration aligned with personal qualifications and experience, based on the TVöD Bund pay scale.
  • Initially, a fixed-term full-time position (part-time possible) until December 31, 2028, with prospects for permanent employment.
  • Additional perks include a Job Ticket, corporate fitness program via Wellpass, and a company pension scheme.
  • Work at an attractive location in Grünwald, Munich, with excellent public transportation links and free parking facilities.
  • Flexible working hours, options for remote work up to 100%, and comprehensive work-life balance support.
