Role Description The Entry-Level Software Developer will work full time in a remote capacity, supporting CNDO’s digital tools and platforms that advance ocean science and sustainability initiatives. Day-to-day tasks include designing, coding, testing, and maintaining software components, primarily for web-based and data-driven applications. The role involves collaborating with senior developers and project teams to implement back-end services, optimize performance, and ensure code quality and reliability. The developer will assist in integrating APIs, managing databases, and documenting technical solutions. This position also requires continuous learning, participating in code reviews, and proactively contributing ideas to improve CNDO’s digital infrastructure.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Computer Science principles, including algorithms, data structures, and software engineering fundamentals.
- Programming skills in one or more languages commonly used for back-end development (e.g., Python, Java, JavaScript/Node.js), with understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP).
- Basic experience or coursework in Software Development and Back-End Web Development, including working with RESTful APIs and databases.
- Ability to write clean, maintainable code, follow version control practices (e.g., Git), and work with collaborative development workflows.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and a willingness to learn new technologies and frameworks.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, and ability to collaborate in a remote, multicultural team environment.
- Bachelor’s degree (completed or in progress) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Interest in ocean science, sustainability, or environmental initiatives is highly beneficial; prior experience with data visualization or scientific computing is a plus.
