2. About the Opportunity:

The Software Engineer, Staff will lead the design and development of software products that transform complex payroll systems into intuitive tools. This role involves end-to-end project ownership and close collaboration with cross-functional teams to improve workflows and system reliability. The position is critical for enhancing operational efficiency and supporting the payroll needs of numerous businesses.


3. Responsibilities:

• Tackle complex platform problems and develop intuitive products.

• Manage projects from problem identification through design, implementation, and iteration.

• Collaborate deeply with product, design, and operations teams to understand payroll workflows.

• Build tools that improve transparency and reliability of payroll money movement.

• Enhance workflows, architecture, and tooling to reduce system friction.

• Demonstrate clear, critical thinking through code and documentation.

• Mentor teammates and contribute to raising quality standards.


4. Requirements:

• Experience owning and delivering production systems end-to-end.

• Background in building internal tools or platforms supporting complex operational workflows.

• Ability to structure ambiguous problems through thoughtful design.

• Skill in debugging complex, multi-service systems.

• Effective communication of technical tradeoffs to diverse teams.

• Familiarity or willingness to learn technologies including Python/Django, React, Typescript, AWS, Terraform, Postgres, Temporal, and Github.


5. Pay Range and Compensation Package:

• In San Francisco, NYC, LA, and Seattle, the expected range is between $200,000 and $247,500.

• For all other US locations, the expected range is between $180,000 and $235,400.

• Actual base salary and equity depend on experience, qualifications, and work location.
