About The Role
We are seeking a skilled and proactive Software Developer to join Raytheon’s dynamic team supporting the British Army’s collective training initiatives. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a high-impact mission that directly enhances national defense capabilities. Based in Warminster, Wiltshire, with a hybrid working model, the successful candidate will be instrumental in designing, developing, and maintaining scalable, secure, and
cloud-native software solutions aligned with military training objectives. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including technical leads, architects, and engineers, to deliver innovative systems that support the Army’s strategic
goals. Your work will involve integrating legacy systems, leveraging modern development practices, and deploying applications across various
cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, and MOD
Cloud (OCP). This position is pivotal in sh
aping the future of military training and requires a dedicated professional committed to excellence and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of five years of experience in full-stack software development, demonstrating expertise in modern frontend frameworks like React or Angular, and backend technologies including
Python,
Java,
JavaScript,
Go, or .NET Core/.NET 5+. Proven experience with containerization using
Docker and orchestration via
Kubernetes is essential. Candidates should have a strong background working with
cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or MOD
Cloud, including deploying and managing
cloud-native applications. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines utilizing tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Tekton, or Azure DevOps is required, alongside experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or
CloudFormation. Knowledge of static and dynamic code analysis tools, RESTful
API development, and security standards (e.g., OWASP, NIST) is also necessary. A current SC clearance or the ability to obtain one is highly desirable. Additional qualifications include a degree in Software Engineering or a related field, and experience with automated
testing frameworks, performance tuning, secrets management, and monitoring tools.
Responsibilities
- Build secure, high-performance backend services utilizing languages such as Node.js, Python, Java, or .NET Core/.NET 5+.
- Integrate APIs, databases, and third-party services to ensure seamless data flow and system interoperability.
- Develop and maintain modern frontend interfaces using frameworks like React or Angular.
- Design, develop, and sustain scalable, cloud-native software solutions, leveraging cloud services and infrastructure.
- Containerize applications with Docker and orchestrate deployment using Kubernetes, including Red Hat OpenShift.
- Automate build, test, and deployment workflows using CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps.
- Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with tools like Terraform or CloudFormation to manage infrastructure reliably.
- Participate in agile planning and estimation activities, supporting iterative development cycles.
- Conduct peer code reviews, ensuring adherence to coding standards, performance optimization, and maintainability, including static analysis with tools like SonarQube.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, refining development workflows and team collaboration processes.
- Establish and maintain comprehensive automated test suites for unit, integration, and end-to-end testing.
- Design solutions with observability and monitoring in mind, integrating logging, metrics, and tracing tools to ensure system health.
- Stay informed about emerging technologies, frameworks, and industry best practices.
- Monitor and address security vulnerabilities, ensuring compliance with security standards and policies.
